About the role

Step into a pivotal role within our Caerphilly SSC team, supporting DS Smith’s largest division—UK Packaging. As Divisional Accountant, you’ll lead the delivery of accurate, timely monthly consolidated results in HFM, partnering with the wider finance community to guide submissions and ensure high‑quality, on‑time reporting.

You’ll act as a key link between the R2R team and divisional leadership, confidently discussing performance with senior management and influencing decisions across the business.

Alongside monthly reporting, you’ll drive improvements in central financial planning and reporting, support integration projects, work with local UK finance teams, and help shape future processes. You’ll also contribute to SSC performance reporting and coordinate activities for statutory accounts, audits, and divisional policy compliance.

Other responsibilities will include:

1. Review and consolidate monthly HFM submissions for the UK Packaging Division

2. Provide routine and ad-hoc analysis and reporting, ensuring that all reporting, including non-standard reporting, is done in an efficient and effective manner

3. Standardise processes and reporting, where possible across functions, sites and systems

4. Provide support to the wider UK Packaging team ensuring reporting deadlines are maintained

5. Become the first point of call for HFM reporting and analysis at the SSC

6. Support the close process to ensure that reporting deadlines are maintained completing key tasks

7. Identify areas of improvement to facilitate a smarter close process

8. Assist in preparation of Divisional Statutory Accounts

9. Assist in preparation of annual statutory and local reporting

10. Provide Support for Finance Manager Reporting and Control when required across all areas of the team including: Head Office Accounting, Fixed Assets Accounting and Consolidation

11. Key contact for any internal and external audits

12. Ensure adherence to company policy and align to any policy changes, identifying changes required and implementing these changes

13. Potential management of a team consisting of Accountants and Assistant Accountants

About you

14. Experience in management or financial accounting and monthly reporting

15. Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems

16. Confident using Excel and PowerPoint to analyse and present data

17. Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines

18. Independent, proactive and collaborative approach

19. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain finance to non-finance stakeholders

Benefits

20. Qualified Accountant, or Part Qualified, with significant experience (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)

21. Strong IT and Microsoft Office skills

22. Solid HFM experience is an advantage

23. Experience in using SAP system is an advantage

24. Experience of consolidation

25. Organised and able to manage own workload

26. Ability to communicate and work well with stakeholders throughout the business

Location: Caerphilly – we operate on a hybrid basis, with 3 days in the office and 2 at home.
