Senior Theatre Practitioner Highfield Hospital 37.5 Hours & Permanent Salary: Up to £44,500. per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification) The Highfield Hospital has recently been awarded OUTSTANDING by the CQC. The Highfield Hospital in Rochdale is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country. We have an opportunity for a Senior Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff. This is a full- time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern. Duties of this role include: Act as the senior scrub for a range of orthopaedic procedures, including joint replacements, arthroscopies, trauma, and spinal surgeries. Prepare and handle specialist instrumentation and equipment (e.g., power tools, implants, navigation systems) in line with manufacturers’ guidance and surgical protocols. Provide skilled assistance to the surgical and anaesthetic teams, anticipating needs and adapting to changes during procedures. Take a senior role in preparing theatres, coordinating surgical lists, and ensuring all equipment, staff, and resources are in place. Support the Theatre Manager with team briefings, scheduling, stock control, and ensuring safe patient flow through the theatre suite. Supervise junior theatre practitioners, ODPs, and healthcare assistants, providing clinical guidance and oversight during shifts. Champion the use of WHO Surgical Safety Checklists, infection prevention practices, and adherence to clinical governance requirements. Ensure safe decontamination and tracking of instruments, correct surgical counts, and accurate documentation of procedures. Identify and escalate clinical or operational risks and participate in audits and incident reviews. Applicants should meet the following criteria: Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC). Significant experience in the perioperative setting with specialist knowledge in orthopaedic surgery. Proven ability to scrub for a wide range of orthopaedic procedures, including complex cases. Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Strong understanding of clinical governance, infection control, and safety practices in theatre.
