About the job The senior project manager leads the buried networks project team. They are responsible for day-to-day management of project managers who are themselves managing projects to install buried heat network pipes throughout the city of Bristol. Our role in these projects is as the "Client". We manage ITT processes and prepare the Scopes of Work for the tenders. Once in contract we manage the necessary permits and participate in the CDM meetings. The senior project manager sits across multiple projects and is active in "stepping in" when necessary, steering projects through good contractor management and, with their excellent knowledge and experience, delivering construction projects. They work with multiple teams and supporting functions such as the planner, contracts manager and business development team, each project manager of a specific project team reporting directly to them. Senior PMs do not duplicate the work of project managers but provide a higher level and wider scope of management to projects and project teams as well as to the organisation they belong. They have the authority to run projects on a day-to-day basis and delegate tasks to individual project managers. The Senior PM reports to the Head of Delivery & Operations on all project issues as well as laterally to the Area Project Manager for updates and support. The senior project manager is responsible for ensuring all projects are successful in their development and through into the delivery phase and meeting the project objectives set out in Financial Investment Decision. This includes working with the area PM to take the projects through governance. Projects run from initial concept through to successful integration into our operations team and adoption as an operational asset. Vattenfall own and operate all heat network assets. Through delivery the senior pm will audit the projects and check compliance to internal process and in doing so will develop internal processes for more efficient project delivery. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the portfolio of projects in the Bristol region ensuring they are delivered safely, and to the required time, budget, and quality. You will have a construction background and have worked as a Principal Contractor and/or client. Ideally you will have past experience delivering buried utilities in live urban areas with a strong contract management experience, excellent leadership and highest standards of Health & Safety. Your profile Key Responsibilities / Duties Leadership of Project Management of Portfolio of projects Lead negotiation of Delivery matters during development stage of projects (i.e. Adoption Agreements, Design Frameworks) Manage overall project budgets; authorised to spend budget within years approved plan. (in line with relevant Governance procedures) Effective Planning, allocation and management of resourcing plan from the support functions and network delivery team Build strong relationship with external/internal partners and stakeholders Be the lead and principal for Vattenfall delivery as required Ensure best practice is shared across the regions through regular engagement with Head of Delivery Responsible for Health and Safety management; ensuring it is delivered through functional teams (i.e. Engineering) and close liaison with Bristol and central Health & Safety managers Proactive Personal Planning for Delivery projects Manage the projects to ensure all contractual aspects between Vattenfall, clients and contractors, ensuring the compliance of all parties, particularly with respect to completion of Project prior to programmed operational start date Develop and maintain effective working relationships with project sponsors and other key stakeholders Produce weekly/monthly project progress report and to monitor and update the plan throughout the project period Act as first point of contact between the Buried Network team and other departments where a PM has not been assigned Directly line manage a team of project managers and project support officers and support their professional development Knowledge and Skills Proficiency with project management tools and related technology Strong verbal and written skills Good team manager with coaching abilities, an eye for detail and for meeting the Client's expectations Sensitivity to commercial development and ability to work in complementarity with the commercial team Knowledge of financial indicators for project follow-up Strong legal and contract management knowledge Excellent Health & Safety knowledge / skills and qualifications in construction health & safety Master the risk management culture You are able to clearly express yourself towards co-workers and customers. (including customer presentations).
