Job Overview
Band 6, Specialist Physiotherapist, 1.22 wte (43.92 hrs). Full and part‑time hours will be considered. Base: Astley Ainslie Hospital.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an established Multidisciplinary Community Respiratory Team in Edinburgh. The Edinburgh Community Respiratory Team delivers an admission‑prevention service for patients with severe COPD and supports early hospital discharge and long‑term management of these patients. The post holder will be supported by the Community Respiratory Team Clinical Lead and work in a team of Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners, Specialist Physiotherapists and Health Care Support Workers.
The Edinburgh Community Respiratory Team is an Interface Service and works collaboratively with primary and secondary care colleagues. The wider team includes Respiratory Consultants, GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Specialist Psychologists, Integrated Care Pharmacists and the Scottish Ambulance Service. We also work in partnership with third‑sector organisations such as Grapevine and Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland.
Responsibilities
* Deliver respiratory physiotherapy to patients with severe COPD, supporting early hospital discharge and long‑term management.
* Manage an independent caseload and demonstrate problem‑solving within the MDT.
* Supervise, mentor and teach students and staff, contributing to ongoing service development.
* Participate in Quality Improvement projects to improve health outcomes for patients with COPD.
* Engage with primary and secondary care colleagues, including Respiratory Consultants, GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Specialist Psychologists, Integrated Care Pharmacists, the Scottish Ambulance Service, and third‑sector organisations such as Grapevine and Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland.
Qualifications
* Evidence of previous senior experience delivering respiratory physiotherapy.
* Specialist knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to respiratory physiotherapy care of patients with COPD.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* Experience of supervision, mentorship and teaching of students is essential.
* Valid HCPC registration.
* PVG Scheme membership/record for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult). If not current, an application to Disclosure Scotland must be made and deemed satisfactory before commencing.
Eligibility
To work in the United Kingdom, applicants must have the relevant permission to work in the country, as required by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.
To work in NHS Scotland, a PVG Scheme membership/record is required. If the applicant is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
