Visiting music teacher: singing

London
STREATHAM AND CLAPHAM HIGH SCHOOL GDST
Music teacher
Posted: 29 April
Offer description

We are seeking a skilled singer with first-rate teaching and communication skills to join our team of self-employed Visiting Music Teachers from September 2026.

In this post, you will play a crucial role in developing the talents of our young singers, working alongside the Music department, and other singing teachers. We envisage being able to offer around six and a half hours’ worth of teaching per week in the first instance, although additional opportunities to increase the teaching timetable may be available for the right candidate, and singing lessons are usually in high demand at SCHS.

We run regular sessions of ABRSM exams, and an annual round of LCM Musical Theatre exams, and we have had significant success with both in recent years.

Music is at the heart of Streatham & Clapham High School and the department is going from strength-to-strength.

Singing is particularly popular with our pupils, and we currently have a team of six singing teachers. Our auditioned Chamber Choir regularly performs evensong at Cathedrals and Oxbridge colleges, and we have recently toured to Spain and Belgium. We have three other choirs; Schola Cantorum (a small, auditioned group), Madeleine Dring Consort (an auditioned group of KS3 pupils), and Metrophonics (a non-auditioned group which tackle lighter repertoire and is hugely popular amongst our KS3 pupils).

About Streatham & Clapham High School

Streatham & Clapham High School is an independent, academically selective school for girls, aged 3 to 18 with over 870 pupils across both the Prep and Senior Schools. The Senior School inhabits a four-acre site focused on an impressive 1930s building in a delightfully tranquil and leafy oasis of south London.

The school is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the largest independent school group in the UK. It is at the forefront of education for girls and a strong voice in promoting opportunities for young women.

Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and should be received no later than 12pm on Friday 8 May 2026, with interviews taking place shortly thereafter.

We reserve the right to interview at any point during the recruitment process, so early applications are encouraged. References for shortlisted candidates will be taken before interview.

The GDST is committed to diversity, inclusion and real change: a family where every individual is valued, respected and included.

We are committed to the safeguarding of children and child protection screening will apply to this post.
