Summary
Carpenter / Locksmith at HMP Huntercombe (Category C men’s prison). Contract: Full Time – Permanent (39hrs per week, shift work Mon to Sun + on call). Salary: £39,673.67 with an additional 5% basic salary in recognition of shift and weekend work. Location: HMP Huntercombe – RG9 5SB.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the Facilities Maintenance Team to maintain the safety, security and functionality of the prison environment. Perform carpentry and locksmith duties, operate associated power tools and machinery, collaborate with plumbers, electricians, painters and other maintenance staff, and contribute to a supportive, 7‑day working team.
Qualifications
* Substantiated experience in a similar role.
* Competency in the use and operation of all associated power tools and machinery.
* Basic IT skills including Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
* Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
* Up to date First Aid at Work Qualification.
* City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry or equivalent qualification or substantial experience.
* Good health and safety knowledge.
* Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
