Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Data Engineer to join a fast-growing digital and data consultancy working at the intersection of strategy, technology, and innovation. This role sits within a multidisciplinary team of product specialists, designers, engineers, and consultants responsible for shaping and delivering advanced cloud-native data solutions for clients across sectors including defence & security, financial services, government, energy, and healthcare.
Working across the full lifecycle—from discovery and design through to delivery and optimisation—you’ll build scalable, high-performance data platforms that enable organisations to harness their data, accelerate digital transformation, and create measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, build, and deploy production-grade data pipelines from ingestion through to consumption
* Engineer large-scale data solutions using AWS cloud technologies such as EMR, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and related analytics services
* Develop robust ETL/ELT processes using Python, Java, Scala, Spark, and SQL
* Integrate, process, and transform complex structured and unstructured data from multiple sources
* Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and client stakeholders to define requirements and deliver scalable data architectures
* Apply agile ways of working across interdisciplinary teams, including whiteboarding sessions, pairing, and iterative delivery
* Contribute to design best practices, documentation, and cloud governance to ensure secure, reliable, and maintainable data solutions
* Work on both client-facing and internal innovation projects, bringing creativity and analytical thinking to solve complex challenges
Required Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
* Proven ability to design and deliver data pipelines using Python, Java, Scala, Spark, or SQL
* Experience processing high-volume structured and unstructured datasets
* Hands-on experience with AWS data and analytics services (or equivalent open-source solutions)
* Familiarity with writing scripts, querying data, extracting from APIs, and handling data movement
* Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
Desirable:
* Background in consulting or multi-sector project delivery
* Experience with data lake or data warehouse architectures
* Exposure to DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, or cloud-native engineering practices
* Degree or equivalent qualification in a STEM discipline
