Primary Responsibilities
The role of Group Leader is responsible for the day to day operation of a number of teams or cells within a manufacturing area. The Group Leader should ensure that all safety, quality, cost and delivery targets for the specified manufacturing area are achieved in line with the targets set by the Manager and business.
Key Responsibilities
Safety
• Monitor that all relevant safety procedures are being followed.
• Ensure all equipment is working properly and is being operated properly and safely.
Standard Work
• Ensure the Team Leaders in your area are conducting their daily standard work audits.
• Personally audit a few processes each week to ensure standard work is being followed.
Documentation
• Ensure all processes are correctly documented and regularly audit to ensure compliance.
Production Boards
• Monitor production boards continuously throughout the day.
• Note any variances and discuss with Team Leaders.
• Take corrective action as required.
Maintenance Work
• Ensure all maintenance work both planned and unplanned is performed during non-production hours if possible. If not, ensure contingency plans are prepared in advance.
• Ensure correct equipment, tooling and fixtures are available for all cells in the manufacturing area.
5S
• Ensure all daily 5S requirements are accomplished.
• Ensure all equipment, tools and materials are properly located.
• Ensure all 5S audits are completed on schedule.
Capacity Planning
• Ensure the correct manning levels are maintained throughout all cells.
• Ensure all available resources are prioritised and distributed in line with the manufacturing areas current priorities.
• Able build and maintain good relationship with planning teams
People/Communication
• Ensure the morning briefings are effective in each team.
• Ensure that any company wide communications are delivered in a timely and efficient manner.
• The Group Leader should make themselves available to members of the Shop floor to discuss any issues facing employees and if appropriate take the correct action to ensure that matters requiring further action are raised at a senior level.
Training
• Monitor that Operators are completely trained to perform the processes they work with.
• Update the cross-training charts and schedule training as required to continue the cross-training efforts.
Disciplinary Process
• By working with team leaders, cell leaders and production managers, the Group Leader must ensure the company disciplinary process is applied to any employee performance issues within their manufacturing area.
Quality
• Ensure that any non-conformances that occur are immediately addressed and properly documented.
• Work with the Team Leader to correct the problem quickly and return the cell to normal operation.
• Review the non-conformance off-line with appropriate support personnel and take corrective action to prevent any re-occurrence.
TAKT
• Monitor that TAKT is being met in each cell.
• Monitor hourly production boards and note any variances.
• Take appropriate corrective actions to maintain the hourly production schedule, note any remarks in the comments section of the production board and discuss with the Team Leader and appropriate personnel.
Waste
• Continuously monitor for any forms of manufacturing waste (over-production, waiting, transportation, over-processing inventory, motion, defects).
• Champion efforts in the area to reduce/eliminate waste.
Continuous Improvement
• Ensure all improvement ideas are recorded and work with support groups to implement.
Planned Breaks
• Ensure all cells adhere to the company policy on breaks and break times.
Unplanned Breaks
• Ensure all resources are fully utilised during any un-planned breaks and where possible ensure corrective action is taken to prevent a repeat.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
