Job Description: Senior Theatre Practitioner- Orthopaedics King Edward VII's Hospital, 5-10 Beaumont Street, Marylebone, London W1G 6AA Permanent (37.5hrs) On-Site £48,500- £53,000 Fantastic Benefits Monday to Saturday Various shift patterns available How you’ll help us make health happen. King Edward VII’s Hospital is a 56‑bed private hospital in Marylebone with four operating theatres, delivering consultant‑led care across elective, day‑case, and inpatient surgery We provide a broad range of planned elective and day‑case surgeries across its four operating theatres, with a focus on high‑quality, consultant‑led private care. Surgical services include orthopaedic procedures, women’s health and gynaecology, urology, and general surgery. The hospital also delivers endoscopy and diagnostic procedures, ophthalmic surgery, dermatology and minor surgery, with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques, efficient patient pathways, and rapid recovery. Key Responsibilities As a Senior Theatre practitioner- Orthopaedics you will be responsible for providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team and to participate in the assessment of patient care needs and implement and maintain agreed standards of care. Assist in the positioning and preparation of a patient as directed by the surgical team and ensure that any specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched to the laboratory. Help to control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding dress, the maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures and asepsis. Participate in induction and orientation programmes for new staff to ensure a welcoming environment. Participate in Personal Development Plans with the Team Leader. Prepare patients for clinical/ operative procedures, both in anaesthetics and surgery. Provide assistance in clinical/ operative procedures, both anaesthetics and surgery. Provide initial emergency care as required. Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of an advanced practitioner ensuring patient, visitors and staff safety. Ensure all equipment is checked prior to use and any faults reported to the Theatre Co-ordinator. Participate fully as a team member, including working in all areas of the theatre suite, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues, to promote a cohesive team and the achievement of team objectives. Adhere to the procedures for the use of supplies, ordering requirements for the Department as directed by line manager. Ensure the accurate collection of data in relation to theatre activity. To ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act and its amendments. Maintain the safe custody, handling of drugs in accordance with hospital policy. Key Skills / Qualifications: RN – 1ST level Registration Adult and/or Children Diploma or Degree in Health Care Studies ODP Level 3 NVQ ODA 752 Minimum of 5 years hospital Scrub experience is essential Experienced in major orthopaedics- Hips, Knees, Arthroplasty Evidence of Professional and Personal Development.
