The Bio-Medical Engineering Department provides an important clinical technical service for the Trust, covering the maintenance and management of medical equipment. The department is comprised of an electronics and mechanical section and an intensive care unit (ICU) and renal support section. You will be responsible for Leading, developing and managing the Biomedical Engineering Services throughout the Trust. This will demand professional, scientific, technical and managerial leadership of the service.
Main duties of the job
You will provide professional technical advice to the Trust at all levels.
Meet the performance management requirements of the Trust, in particular, departmental business plan, financial expenditure plan, Controls Assurance requirements, Quality Assurance and activity targets for the service.
The Biomedical Engineering Head of Department will lead the team of Technicians who are responsible for managing the Trust’s large stock of medical equipment. The specialties covered includes: x-ray equipment, pathology laboratory equipment, audiology, neuroscience, renal dialysis and anaesthetic equipment as well as the full range of patient related monitoring and therapeutic equipment found in the Trust’s wards, intensive cares and theatres.
The Electronics section is responsible for a wide range of devices in all areas of the trust including patient monitoring, blood gas analysers and infusion devices. The work is very varied.
The Intensive Care support section of Biomedical Engineering provides clinical and technical support to the intensive care areas for all ventilators and respiratory support systems. Support is also provided to the renal unit and the 14 dialysis machines, 14 reverse osmosis units, and 10 CVVH machines and in use on the renal unit and Intensive care units.
The role requires interaction with all levels of staff across the Trust and establishing professional working relationship will be an essential component of the role. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

* Honours Science / Engineering Degree or equivalent in engineering discipline or equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience / vocational training

* Extensive experience working in the Biomedical Engineering Field and exposure to a wide range of medical equipment
