This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people who need guidance, structure and positive relationships to thrive both academically and emotionally. About the Role As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and therapists to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them engage in learning, develop coping strategies and build confidence. Key responsibilities include: Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups within the classroom Helping students regulate emotions and manage behaviour through trauma-informed approaches Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced adversity or barriers to learning Supporting the delivery of personalised interventions focused on wellbeing, emotional regulation and social skills Assisting teachers in creating a safe, nurturing and structured learning environment Promoting positive behaviour and supporting de-escalation when required Working collaboratively with safeguarding, pastoral and therapeutic teams Supporting pupils' academic progress, personal development and mental wellbeing About You We are looking for someone who is: Passionate about supporting children and young people with SEMH needs Patient, empathetic and emotionally resilient Experienced in education, youth work, care, mental health support or similar (desirable) Knowledgeable about trauma-informed practice, behaviour support or mental health needs (desirable) Able to remain calm under pressure and respond positively to challenging situations A strong communicator and effective team player Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children We Welcome Applicants From Backgrounds Such As: Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants Youth Workers Support Workers Psychology or Education graduates Mental Health Support Practitioners Residential Care Workers Behaviour Mentors or Pastoral Support Staff What We Offer A supportive and experienced SEMH team Ongoing training and professional development Opportunities to progress within specialist education and pastoral support A rewarding role where you can make a real difference every day Pension scheme and staff wellbeing support Safeguarding Statement This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
