Overview
Apprenticeship opportunity for a Level 3 Early Years Educator. The programme combines on-the-job training with structured training to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the role. Training is delivered online or in person with supported progression and the aim of achieving a recognised early years qualification.
Responsibilities
* Assist in planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate activities and promote learning through play in line with the EYFS framework.
* Create a safe, stimulating, inclusive environment and maintain clean, welcoming learning spaces.
* Follow safeguarding, health & safety procedures, data protection policies, and nursery/setting policies.
* Observe, monitor and record children’s progress; contribute to assessments, development plans and share information with senior staff and families as needed.
* Promote positive behaviour, social skills, and inclusive communication; support children with routines, mealtimes, toileting, dressing and nap times; help establish consistent routines for comfort and stability.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents; participate in meetings and training; maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
* Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person; recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
* Advocate for all children’s needs (including SEND or EAL) and support their emotional, cultural and identity development; facilitate child-centred interventions and experiences aligned with the curriculum and pedagogy.
* Develop and maintain professional relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child; use a range of communication methods, including technology, to meet individual needs.
Training and progression
* As an apprentice, you will receive regular on-the-job training and at least 20% of working hours will be allocated to off-the-job training, to complete the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard (including any required Functional Skills in English and maths).
* Training is delivered online or at the NextStep Training centre in Hackney; you will be supported by experienced tutors and assessors. Training will include paediatric first aid qualification.
* Opportunities for progression include roles such as Senior Practitioner or Room Leader, Deputy Nursery Manager and Nursery Manager; NextStep Training also offers Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications in Early Years (Advanced Practitioner and Lead Practitioner) with flexible delivery and safeguarding support.
* Potential routes on completion include roles in schools (Teaching Assistant or SEND Support), trainer/assessor/mentor roles, or further studies toward EYTS or QTS.
Apprenticeship details
* Wage: £13,741 for the first year, with potential increases; National Minimum Wage for apprentices applies; pay increases after the first 12 months.
* Hours: 35 hours per week, varied shifts 6:30am–6:00pm; no weekends.
* Start date: Wednesday 29 October 2025; Duration: 1 year 6 months.
* Location and delivery: Online or in-person training; NextStep Training Ltd provides childcare-focused apprenticeships across London and England.
