The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across the City of London and East London.
Our pharmacy department is committed to providing an innovative service that focuses on patient care and experience, and we’re currently hiring enthusiastic Medicines Management Pharmacy Assistants to join us. This is an ideal opportunity for you to start your career in Pharmacy, developing your knowledge and experience in our dynamic and diverse team as you’ll receive all the training and support you need to be your best. You will support Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians by providing supervised pharmacy services, including dispensing of medicines, and replenishing and maintaining ward stocks and patients’ own medicines and supporting with compliance to the medicines management audit criteria.
The post holder will work under the supervision of a Medicines Management Technicians and Pharmacists. Your main duties will be working on wards carrying out near bedside dispensing, patient interview and counselling for discharge. In addition, the ward-based teams are heavily involved in the governance of medicines throughout regular cycle of audits.
We are looking for a committed and motivated person with excellent organisational skills to develop this role. This will include the supervision and training or dispensary assistants and acting as a role model for pharmacy assistants.
You must possess good communication skills and be able to work to tight deadlines in this busy and challenging environment. Computer literacy and attention to detail is also important.
Main duties of the job
The key focus of this role is to provide safe and secure stock control within pharmacy, wards and clinical areas. They will assist in the supply and dispensing of prescribed items, receive and put away stock including dispensary consumables.
The post holder will provide an efficient and effective administrative service, operational and finance support, as well as undertake project work to enhance the service. The post holder will rotate throughout the site and clinical areas and department to gain experience in all areas which includes support in a patient facing role and dispensaries.
The post holder will be expected to work with minimum day to day supervision and to use their initiative and be proactive when issues arise. Regular communication within the team needs to be maintained in relation to working practices, procedures and any changes. A good working relationship with colleagues and other healthcare staff needs to be fostered and maintained at all times.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. •GCSE grades A -C or 4-9•English Language •Maths •Double Science
2. •NVQ QCF level 2 in pharmacy services

3. •HEE Medicines Optimisation programme or equivalent ie competent to assess PODS and transcribe and order from drug charts
Experience
Essential criteria
4. Experience in customer care environment
5. Experience of working in a pharmacy team
6. Demonstrable stock management experience
