Offer description

As a Day Operator at our Waste Treatment Plant near Knaresborough, you'll be part of a skilled and supportive team responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient running of our site. The role will focus on operating mobile plant to move waste materials across the facility, particularly transporting skips and baled waste using a forklift truck. You'll also have the opportunity to work with a range of plant and equipment, including the telehandler and overhead grab crane, and develop your skills further with training and progression opportunities available.

* Salary for the role is £31,163.75 per annum
* Weekly shift pattern of 6am-2pm / 2pm – 10pm (Monday – Friday)
* Opportunity for Saturday overtime – time and a half

Key Responsibilities

* Safely operate the baler machine and overhead crane.
* Move and transport skips, pallets and baled waste around site using a forklift truck (essential requirement).
* Operate mobile plant, including forklift truck, telehandler (training can be provided if not already ticketed), front-loading shovel, and 360 excavator.
* Carry out first-line maintenance on equipment and ensure tools/plant are checked daily and reported if defective.
* Manage and remove IBA (Incinerated Bottom Ash).
* Maintain clean working conditions in fuel reception areas, tipping hall and delivery routes.
* Carry out waste inspections and report non-conforming waste.
* Load collection vehicles and static plant.
* Control the feeding process of waste into treatment lines to maintain treatment efficiencies.
* Report all hazards, near misses, incidents, and environmental concerns.
* Ensure all waste is handled safely, in line with company procedures and legislation.
* Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards across site.

Skills and Experience

* Valid Forklift Truck licence – essential (role requires daily use for skips, pallets and baled waste).
* Telehandler licence – desirable (training can be provided if not currently held).
* Full UK driving licence.
* A flexible approach to working across different site tasks.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment.
