Teaching Assistant - Specialist PRU Setting (Bristol)
Pay: £14.92 per hour

Are you an experienced and compassionate support professional looking to make a difference in an alternative education setting? We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a Bristol-based Pupil Referral Unit, supporting pupils who require specialist provision outside of mainstream education.
About the Role
This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children and young people who present with a range of needs including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), and those at risk of exclusion. You\'ll support learning, engagement, and emotional wellbeing in a structured, therapeutic environment.
This role is offered as temporary cover, with the potential for long-term placement for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs.
* Assist in the delivery of tailored learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff.
* Support pupils in managing behaviour and emotional regulation using trauma-informed approaches.
* Help maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external agencies.
Essential Requirements
* Experience working in a PRU, AP (Alternative Provision), or similar specialist setting.
* Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
* Understanding of safeguarding and inclusive education practices.
* Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma or disrupted education.
Desirable Skills & Attributes
* Training in Team Teach, Makaton, or other relevant interventions.
* Knowledge of EHCPs and how to support individual learning plans.
* Resilience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
