Job Summary
To service, maintain and repair all factory equipment to keep production at optimum efficiency and enable delivery of key performance targets safely, effectively and efficiently while meeting customer and technical standards. Take ownership of apprentice development and training, stand in for the Engineering Team Leader when required, and lead optimisation projects.
Responsibilities and Duties
* Wear correct PPE including ear protection, clothing and shoes.
* Operate within company health and safety standards and keep workstations clean.
* Report hazards or problems immediately to your manager and support resolution.
* Stand in for the Engineering Team Leader when required.
* Take ownership of apprentice development, ensuring job write‑ups are complete and college criteria are targeted.
* Develop a skills matrix and use it to upskill and train new engineers.
* Deliver key performance targets for your area.
* Attend breakdowns promptly to minimise machinery downtime and support operational performance targets.
* Be available for prompt attendance to breakdowns with correct tools within 2 minutes of callout.
* Maintain machinery at the highest standard to ensure plant availability at all times.
* Diagnose defects, effect repairs and evaluate results (test before handing back).
* Understand system drawings and machinery manuals (Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic).
* Keep up to date with current technology advancements and implement best practice.
* Identify and order correct spare parts from multiple sources and communicate this information to team members.
* Monitor and recycle materials to reduce costs.
* Carry out dynamic performance tests of new and current machinery on a continuing basis.
* Liaise with contractors, assess the quality and performance of their work, ensuring correct standards are maintained.
* Keep records up to date in accordance with good engineering practices and carry out effective handovers.
* Communicate with other departments to influence and educate, drawing attention to current state, impending problems and to develop a spirit of co‑operation.
* Convey accurate information effectively using appropriate methods to reflect audience needs and ensure understanding.
* Ensure good standards of General Manufacturing Practice and keep the area audit ready at all times.
* Continuously review and identify ways to improve efficiency, yields, and reduce costs and waste while maintaining quality and technical standards.
* Contribute to departmental and site improvement projects as required.
* Undertake any duties within your skills and capabilities which the company reasonably considers necessary to meet business needs.
Experience, Skills, and Educational Achievements Necessary
* Level 3 engineering apprenticeship qualified.
* Knowledge of H&S practices and Codes of Practice.
* Act as a role model, leading by example and demonstrating core company values, behaviours and high performance standards.
* Take personal responsibility for own development and ensure knowledge and understanding of best practice and factors affecting business performance is kept up to date.
