The Role
Working with a wide range of equipment, the Network Asset Engineer will implement an effective and efficient maintenance service on all Wastewater Network Maintenance sites, including pumping stations, powered screens and detention tanks. They will provide a service to internal and external customers in order to achieve the quality, performance and safety standards of the company.
Key Accountabilities
* Carry out reactive, planned and proactive fault identification and analysis to determine the root cause of mechanical issues across Wastewater Network Maintenance assets.
* Complete scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure asset reliability, operational efficiency, and full compliance with United Utilities’ Health and Safety policies and procedures.
* Support Network Asset and Maintainer Controllers by reviewing and adjusting telemetry alarm levels, updating asset registrations, and contributing to contingency planning.
* Respond to reactive incidents such as alarms, customer calls and field notifications, providing first‑call response for all powered assets.
* Identify and elevate further work requirements and capital investment needs, helping to prevent repeat failures and improve asset performance.
* Act as the Person Controlling the Works (PCW) for contractor activities, ensuring safe, timely and budget‑compliant completion of mechanical work on site.
Skills & Experience
* Basic maintenance understanding of the operation of Wastewater Network Assets and a general understanding of Wastewater Network activities.
* Good information technology skills and the ability to understand United Utilities systems and their capabilities and limitations.
* Capacity to work independently with own initiative and possess a flexible approach to highly varied workloads.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
* Good time‑management skills – able to work to agreed deadlines and achieve personal objectives.
Qualifications
Hold a minimum qualification at City and Guilds or National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 (or equivalent) in a mechanical discipline and be a time‑served engineer in Mechanical engineering or a relevant Mechanical discipline.

A full UK driving licence is required for this role.
