We have an excellent opportunity for asenior clinical pharmacist within our ADHD service team.

The Clinical Pharmacist will play akey role in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care across Quay Healthcareand its affiliated ADHD Services. The post holder will ensure the safe,effective, and evidence-based use of medicines, supporting medicinesoptimisation, service development, and high standards of governance. Thisincludes the ability to work independently as a prescriber, contribute toquality assurance and policy development, and deliver patient-focused clinicalservices, particularly in the specialist area of Mental Health and ADHD.

About us

Quay Primary Healthcare CIC is a non-profit independent NHSprovider company

Quay Healthcare delivers ADHD services to various areasaround the country under the right to choose contract. We also have an ICB contract for WarringtonADHD services.

Quay Healthcare also supports three Primary Care Networks(PCNs), based in Warrington, working collaboratively with East Warrington PCN,Central East Warrington PCN and SWAN (South Warrington PCN). There are 13practices across the 3 PCNs.

Our vision is to provide innovative staff and services topatients and the PCNs. We have successfully employed clinical pharmacists,pharmacy technicians, first contact physiotherapists, mental healthpractitioners, care coordinators, and first contact practitioners.


Job responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Service Delivery

Provides senior clinical leadership for ADHD services across Quay Healthcare, ensuring safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective use of medicines in line with local and national guidelines.

Leads the delivery and development of clinical pharmacist structure within their specialist areas, including adult ADHD and mental health, and applying expert clinical knowledge to support holistic patient care.

Acts as a non-medical prescriber, managing treatment plans for patientscovering transitions of care, titrations, shared care, and annual reviewsand performing clinical risk assessments and complex case reviews.

Delivers medicines management and clinical pharmacist services across Quay, including co-morbidity management.

Develops, implements, and reviews clinical guidelines, protocols, and service models; ensures compliance with GPhC standards, the Medicines Act, NICE, local and national formularies, NMC, GMC and other relevant legislation.

Champions quality assurance maintaining high standards of accuracy and safety despite operational pressures and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Aligns with, and actively supports, the organisations vision and strategic objectives.

Identifies and leads on quality improvement initiatives within existing service limitations.

Leads on the development and implementation of Quay-specific medicines governance frameworks, including local formularies, SOPs, shared care agreements and audit.

Supports Senior Management in achieving CQC compliance and delivering effective governance and risk management strategies.

Drives medicines optimisation across services by reducing inappropriate polypharmacy, managing repeat prescribing systems, and conducting high-quality medication reviews to improve clinical outcomes.

Undertakes proactive research for new and emerging medicines, including medical devices and technology or any upcoming changes, preparing the organisation for their safe and cost-effective introduction.

Assist with the application of national guidance (e.g., NICE), MHRA alerts, and audit findings to enhance prescribing safety and support continuous service improvement.

Produces guidance and supporting documentation to encourage safe, effective, and value-based prescribing across the ADHD Services.

Expert Pharmaceutical Practice

Delivers specialist pharmaceutical care, including the planning, management, and review of treatment care plans for patients with ADHD.

Demonstrates clinical accountability and autonomy in providing direct patient care and pharmaceutical expertise.

Applies a sound knowledge of core pharmaceutical principles across a range of clinical scenarios; analysing and comparing options to make informed decisions.

Recognises clinical priorities and deviations from expected patterns, escalating appropriately to senior colleagues or general practices when necessary.

Involves patients in shared decision-making regarding prescribed medicines and provides support to enhance adherence and treatment outcomes.

Quality Assurance

Operates within legal, ethical, professional, and organisational frameworks, adhering to the Medicines Act, NICE guidance, and relevant governance protocols.

Lead on development, implementation, and review of pharmacy policies and guidelines.

Maintain quality of work despite interruptions and act as a quality role model.

Promote a culture of safety, regulation, and continuous improvement.

Research & Audit

Undertake audits and contribute to research initiatives to enhance the clinical pharmacist structure within the Adult ADHD Service.

Present findings to the Clinical Lead and Medical Director as appropriate.

Risk Management & Health and Safety

Report clinical and non-clinical incidents promptly and support investigations.

Comply with Health & Safety and Fire policies, including COSHH and infection control regulations.

When working remotely, ensure a safe and secure workspace is maintained, adhering to NHS regulations and best practices to protect patient confidentiality and sensitive information at all times.

3. Collaborative Working & LeadershipEducation, Supervision, & Strategic Development

Lead on Pharmacists prescribers supervision, onboarding, and education, working with the Clinical Director to develop ADHD specialist pharmacists and ensure appropriate learning pathways are adhered to.

Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice to:

1. Prescribers and clinical teams on medicine safety, efficacy, side effects, and interactions
2. Patients and carers on medication use, including sensitive or complex information
3. Community pharmacy teams to support medication adherence and continuity of care

Use tact and diplomacy when challenging prescribing decisions or communicating policy updates, especially where there may be resistance or gaps in awareness.

Liaise with primary care and community pharmacy colleagues to ensure smooth transitions of care and adequate medication supply.

Actively signpost patients to appropriate healthcare professionals when outside own scope and professional limitations.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with GPhC standards.

Participate in the Quay Healthcare performance review process, including development and review of personal objectives and training plans including engagement with the clinical support package.

Support and supervise colleagues, including

4. Providing education to clinical teams and junior staff
5. Leading sessions on medicines use and guidance implementation
6. Mentoring pharmacists or trainees where appropriate

Set up and lead a prescribing task force and contribute to the development of pharmaceutical formularies leadership strategies.

Provide training, support, and medicines information to healthcare professionals and administrative staff across Quay and GP practices.

Supervise and support team members through guidance, training, and audit supervision - promoting safe and consistent prescribing practices.

Improve quality and cost-effectiveness in Quays service delivery.

Team and Stakeholder Engagement

Recognise and value the roles of multidisciplinary colleagues in delivering patient care.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders including ICBs, GP practices, community pharmacies, NHS/private organisations, AMHS, voluntary sector and social care.

Build strong working relationships with GP practices, community pharmacies, and ICB medicines optimisation teams to support collaborative decision-making and improve patient outcomes.

Identify and lead on improvement initiatives.

Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of service delivery in the NHS
* Previous experience supervising or mentoring staff
* Experience with medicines optimisation
* Familiarity with national/local prescribing guidelines and policy implementation.
* Ability to plan, manage and review pharmaceutical care programmes
* Excellent communication and influencing skills with multidisciplinary teams
* Competence in clinical decision-making and risk management
* Ability to lead on medicines governance, audits and policy creation
* Demonstrated capacity for quality improvement and service development
* Skilled in handling sensitive and complex patient information with confidentiality
* Minimum 2 years Pharmacy experience within a specialist setting (ADHD/Mental Health Services)
* Awareness of ADHD treatment pathways and shared care protocols


Additional Criteria

* Full UK Driving Licence.


Qualifications

* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Minimum 2 years post-registration experience in NHS pharmacy
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
* Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
* Working towards or holding RPS Faculty Membership
* Minimum 2 years Pharmacy experience within a specialist setting (ADHD/Mental Health Services)
* Awareness of ADHD treatment pathways and shared care protocols
