Electrician – Streetlighting & Highway Technology
Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Salary: £44,000 per annum. Full benefits package includes company van and overtime opportunities. Permanent position.
We are a rapidly growing infrastructure contractor seeking a skilled Electrician to join our Street Lighting & Electrical team. This role involves installation, testing, fault‑finding, and maintaining street lighting and highway electrical infrastructure in live highway environments.
Electrical works include street lights, highway technology, and street furniture assets. No prior streetlighting experience required; training provided. Commercial and industrial experience is essential.
Key responsibilities:
* SWA terminations into lighting columns and feeder pillars
* Testing, inspection, and completion of electrical certification
* Fault‑finding and electrical surveys across highway assets
* Cable pulling and jointing
* Liaising with clients and internal teams on site
* Completing risk assessments prior to work activities
* Ensuring installations meet standards, deadlines, and budgets
* Completing documentation, raising on‑site issues, and maintaining accurate records
* Promoting a safe working environment and adhering to QEHS procedures
* Reporting QEHS issues via internal systems (Eyes & Ears App)
Candidate profile:
* Confident working nights and staying away when required
* Physically capable of manual work
* Committed to delivering high‑quality installations on time and within budget
* Safety‑focused with strong awareness of risks and proactive problem‑solving
* Strong communicator who works well within a team
* Diligent with PPE, vehicle checks, and tool maintenance
* Comfortable working in a fast‑paced contracting environment where priorities can shift
Qualifications & experience:
* ECS/CSCS Card
* G39 & IPAF
* City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation
* Inspection & Testing qualification (HESA or C&G)
* Full UK Driving Licence
* Experience in electrical street lighting is desirable but not essential
* Commercial/Industrial experience is essential
* Strong commitment to QEHS compliance and reporting
