BarnsleyAssistive Technology delivers specialised services for Augmentative andAlternative Communication and Environmental Control across Yorkshire and theHumber. The team is directly commissioned by NHS England to deliver these twospecialised services. The team has an excellent national and internationalreputation for quality, innovation and research and development and has stronglinks with the University of Sheffield.
We are lookingto recruit a registered Clinical Technologist/Healthcare Science Practitionerto work as a Lead Technologist as part of our Assistive Technology team. If successful, you will be jointlyresponsible for leading our technical team of specialist Clinical TechnologistClinical Engineers providing specialised Assistive Technology across Yorkshireand Humber. We are particularly looking for someone who can have responsibilityfor the delivery of the mechanical and mounting elements of the technicalservice, including the management of the engineering workshop.

Main duties of the job
If successfulas well as leading the team you will have a direct role in supporting the needsof children and adults through the provision and technical support ofcommunication aids and environmental controls (including computer accessequipment). You will help deliver the high quality services to our clients thatthey expect. You and the team willensure specialised access equipment is setup and maintained safely andeffectively. You will be responsible for a team that manages and provides thousandsof items of technology each year. You will also be responsible for ensuringthat this technology is provided in the most efficient and effective way forour clients including ensuring that we respond to faults and amendmentrequests in a timely way.
You will haveknowledge of quality management systems and contribute to the maintenance ofour CECOPs accreditation.
The people youvisit may be children and adults with a range of underlying disabilities andyour role will be to support installation and provision of specialistcommunication aids and environmental controls (including computer accessequipment). This will include fault response and planned and preventativemaintenance.
Access to anduse of a car for work is thus essential and you will be expected to be basedfrom and travel from home for some of the week, where this minimises travel andmakes appointments more effective.

Experience
* Significant experience of equipment setup, servicing and management.
* Significant experience of implementing planned preventative maintenance programmes.
* Significant experience of staff management and leadership
* Comprehensive experience of high quality technical work of fabrication, repair and fault finding.
* Experience in the use of tools relevant to the post holders specialism such as machining, fabrication, welding or electronics.
* Relevant experience in specialist field of Electronic Assistive Technology.
* Experience of assistive technology device/system configuration and provision.
* Experience of embedded systems hardware and software design.
* Experience of application of quality systems.
Skills and Abilities
* Team management abilities, in both team leadership and work management of staff.
* Highly competent in an area of technical skill such as welding, machining of the use of electronics and computers.
* Excellent (advanced) technical fault finding and diagnosis skills.
* Dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills for use of fine tools.
* Skills in training of other staff in technical topics and the use of equipment.
* Skills in the analysis and interpretation of technical specifications from clinical staff.
* IT literate with experience of a range of common applications relevant to the role.
* Drafting and/or CAD
* Electronic systems design skills, relevant to electronic assistive technology.

* In-house construction of specialist electronic or mechanical devices.
* Fault finding skills specific to electronic assistive technology or other complex client critical and multi-faceted equipment

Qualifications
* Relevant engineering qualification to BSc level or HND level with commensurate experience and skills,
* Registered on the Register of Clinical Technologists
* Specialist training to masters equivalent level
Knowledge and Awareness
* Professional electronics or mechanical engineering knowledge acquired through degree (or equivalent).
* Knowledge of role of electronic assistive technology and service users.
* Specialist knowledge of:
* Procedures and process for setup and administering of a PPM program.
* Risk assessment and evaluation with relation to equipment provision.
* Medical Devices Directive and its implementation.
* MHRA guidance related to equipment management and manufacture.
* Health and Safety policy and its application with respect to the workshop environment.
* In depth knowledge of electronic assistive technology commercial solutions and the potential role of custom made equipment.
* Knowledge of formal quality systems.
