Responsibilities
1. Encourage and support the creation of a functional BTFL culture that embraces health, safety, environment, and wellbeing principles and goals, including active promotion and application of the account culture group and balanced scorecard.
2. Provide safety and risk intelligent professional support to the account while advising the management team, client, employees, supply chain partners, and volunteers on all HSE and Wellbeing matters.
3. Support day-to-day operations on the management and reporting of all HSE accidents, incidents, near misses, and safety observations, ensuring immediate feedback, timely investigations, corrective actions, and learning from experience.
4. Anticipate and stay aware of future HSE legislation changes, support plans, and introduce revised policies or processes as required, including supporting relevant training to maintain competence levels.
5. Support the development and delivery of assurance activities in line with the SQR Assurance framework.
6. Engage collaboratively with the SQR team, including HSW Business Partners, on HSE matters.
7. Participate in Community of Practice meetings to review or develop health, safety, environmental, and wellbeing initiatives.
8. Support the development and implementation of the BTFL culture group and manage culture board activity.
9. Support the development and use of the balanced scorecard to gain insights and act on performance indicators.
10. Assist in interactions with statutory bodies and regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements and client-specific standards.
11. Review existing HSE policies, procedures, and safe systems of work, including risk assessments and permit to work procedures.
12. Identify hazards or risks not addressed in policies, including escalation and input to the risk register.
13. Support the management of the Aspect and Impacts register and objectives related to sustainability goals.
14. Attend and support audits, including pre-audit reviews and client audits related to HSE.
15. Support internal and external HSE audits and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
16. Advise and promote accountability on HSE issues, developing trusted relationships with operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners.
17. Contribute to effective business communication through various channels including meetings, reports, and publications.
18. Support occupational health programs and work with HR on managing health conditions and reasonable adjustments.
19. Ensure submissions for accreditations like RoSPA, British Safety Council, and environmental awards are completed.
20. Report to the HSE Manager or as required by the Head of HSW and have functional authority over site-based HSE and wellbeing matters.
21. Oversee safety information provided by supply chain partners and support ISO frameworks including ISO 9001, 45001, 14001, and 45003.
22. Provide support on project delivery, including CDM compliance, safety inspections, and EHS advice.
23. Collaborate with the HSW Business Partners to deliver HSE and Wellbeing goals at the account level.
Qualifications include NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent, IEMA or similar in environmental awareness, and evidence of ongoing professional development (e.g., IOSH membership). Previous experience in a regulated environment, auditing, incident investigation, and knowledge of ISO standards are required. Candidates should possess strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a disciplined approach to work prioritization. A good understanding of HSE legislation, IT skills, and the ability to build relationships at all levels are essential.
