The Role
We’re looking for an experienced and forward‑thinking HR professional to join us on a fixed‑term, part‑time maternity cover, providing strategic HR partnership to our leadership teams at The Eastside Rooms Events Venue and Aloft Birmingham Eastside Hotel.
Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Regional General Manager and Senior Leadership Team, you’ll ensure continuity of HR leadership and maintain alignment with our people strategy, while supporting the ongoing development of our exceptional HR team of four.
This is a hands‑on yet strategic role, offering flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact in one of Birmingham’s most exciting hospitality destinations.
Key Responsibilities
No two weeks will look the same, but your priorities will include:
 * Being a trusted partner to the General Manager, Regional General Manager and Senior Leadership Team advising, challenging, and supporting them to deliver people‑first, commercially sound decisions.
 * Championing collaboration with our union partners, ensuring open dialogue with on‑property reps and Union contacts, and supporting the Regional GM with annual pay review and consultation activity.
 * Supporting and guiding the HR team, including mentoring and coaching the Assistant HR Manager to continue developing leadership and skills capability within the team.
 * Driving engagement and inclusion by keeping our people strategy alive, maintaining momentum on wellbeing, recognition, and leadership development initiatives.
 * Leading with insight, using HR metrics on turnover, engagement, and absence to shape meaningful actions and decisions.
 * Keeping us compliant and confident, overseeing policy reviews, contracts, and documentation, and ensuring legislative and audit standards are always met.
 * Coaching and empowering managers, helping them navigate complex ER situations with confidence and fairness.
 * Sharing best practice across the Hotel and Vennue, ensuring consistency, creativity, and continuous improvement in how we manage, motivate, and support our teams.
About You
You will be an experienced HR leader or consultant with strong generalist expertise, commercial awareness, excellent relationship‑building skills, and a pragmatic, solution‑focused approach.
We are looking for someone who brings:
 * Senior HR generalist experience, ideally within hospitality, events, or another fast‑paced service sector.
 * Proven experience working with recognised trade unions and leading positive industrial relations.
 * Knowledge of HR compliance, employment law, and policy governance.
 * Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret HR data and provide meaningful insight.
 * A track record of driving leadership development, engagement, and wellbeing initiatives.
 * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence working at senior level.
 * CIPD Level 7 or equivalent qualification or experience.
