This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the North Devon Psychology and Psychological Therapies service as an Arts Therapist. We are a dynamic and friendly multi-disciplinary team who are passionate about our work and will encourage and celebrate your creative contributions. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative practitioner, who is committed to advancing the health and quality of life of people with mental health and complex emotional needs within North Devon.
Main duties
* Provide an Arts Therapy service to people with secondary care mental health needs, from across North Devon.
* Provide local clinical leadership, co-ordination and supervision for trainees and volunteers employed by or attached to the psychological therapies service, under the general direction and supervision of the Professional Lead.
* Carry a specialist caseload of clients, including some with a learning disability, and provide advice and consultancy to patients, family members, carers and professionals.
* Be supported by senior colleagues within your specialist field and be encouraged to further develop clinical skills with this client group.

Job responsibilities
Communication and Working Relationships
* Clients, family and carers: communicate in a highly skilled and sensitive manner with clients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating and who may be hostile or emotionally disturbed.
* Multidisciplinary team colleagues: work closely with colleagues in the multi-professional integrated mental health and wellbeing service daily.
* Health & social care staff: communicate with a wide range of health & social care staff in hospital and community settings, providing information concerning assessment, formulation and treatment plans; support and guidance in applying psychological principles; and fostering reflective practice.
* Senior managers & professional staff: maintain good working relationships with senior professional staff and managers to enable effective service delivery.
Planning and Organisation
* Plan and prioritise own workload, balancing patient care with support for carers and professionals and service development activities.
* Contribute to the planning and organisation of psychology and therapy services within the locality and support service development aligned to organisational strategy.
* Provide psychology/therapy knowledge to multiprofessional planning, development and marketing of mental health and wellbeing services.
* Provide specialist psychological therapy expertise and advice; develop formulations and treatment plans; implement interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups.
* Support service development and redesign projects in collaboration with leadership and Professional Leads.
Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy
* Assessment & intervention: make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about assessment, treatment and discharge, including risk management; develop treatment plans and consider diversity issues.
* Consultation & guidance: provide advice and consultation on psychological aspects of patient care to colleagues, other service providers, patients, supporters and families.
Policy, Service, Research, Innovation and Improvement
* Accountable for professional actions within Trust policies and Professional Practice Guidelines; support policy and service changes and development.
Supervision, Leadership and Management
* Lead and supervise the work of assistants and/or trainees as required; provide supervision and consultancy to health and social care colleagues; support placements in line with professional guidelines.
Information Resources and Administrative Duties
* Maintain accurate records compliant with Trust Practice Standards; manage electronic communications as part of internal processes.
Research and Development
* Utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice; contribute to audits, research or service evaluation; collect clinical practice and outcome data for practice-based evidence.
Freedom to Act
* Autonomous professional practice within clinical guidelines; govern psychological practice within locality/specialty; provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues and families.
Other tasks
* Ensure clinical care and treatment is carried out under appropriate supervision and leadership; ensure staff continually update skills and techniques relevant to their clinical work.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Professional, master's level qualification in Art Therapy and current HCPC Arts Therapies registration.
* Further training or experience in clinical specialism.
Desirable
* Further training in at least one other psychological therapy.
* IT skills.
Experience
* Experience of specialist therapeutic assessment and treatment of mental health clients across a wide range of care settings; experience in diversity awareness and social inequality; experience of working under supervision in secondary care adult mental health services.
* Desirable: experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
