Application Information This role is only open to those currently employed by the University of Sussex, Reed, SEF or Chartwells. About the role The University of Sussex Business School is seeking an organised and motivated individual to join our Research Support Division as Assistant Research Manager (People & Environment). This is a varied and rewarding role, supporting the delivery of internal research planning, researcher support, and research governance across the School. Working closely with the Research Manager, you’ll help to ensure smooth operations across a range of key areas — from PGR coordination and research staff induction, to internal funding processes, REF preparation and research committee support. This role plays a central part in enabling high-quality, inclusive and well-managed research activity. You’ll be responsible for coordinating critical processes, supporting academic and professional colleagues, and ensuring that research operations run efficiently and responsively — all contributing to the strength and sustainability of our research environment. You’ll be working at the heart of a friendly and ambitious team, engaging with colleagues across the School and wider University. It’s a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and research-focused environment. About you You’ll bring experience of research administration or a related higher education role, with strong organisational skills and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset. You’ll be comfortable managing multiple deadlines, coordinating key processes, and communicating clearly with a wide range of stakeholders. We’re looking for someone who is confident navigating policy and procedure, and who can support both operational delivery and ongoing improvement. You’ll have a good eye for detail, enjoy working collaboratively, and be keen to support a positive and inclusive research culture. If you’re looking for a role where your coordination skills, systems thinking, and commitment to research excellence can make a real difference — we’d love to hear from you.
