We're now recruiting an Engineering Team Leader to join our Severnside Dairy - a high-volume, complex manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, leading from the front, and acting as a key point of escalation for engineering issues.
The Role
You'll lead a team of up to 14 engineers, with typically 4-5 engineers on site per shift, alongside contractors. While this is not a shift engineer role, a minimum level of hands-on engineering experience is essential, with an expectation that you are regularly present on the shop floor in a supervisory leadership capacity.
You'll be responsible for ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective maintenance delivery, driving continuous improvement, and developing engineering capability across the site.
Key Responsibilities
Provide visible, hands-on leadership on the shop floor, acting as a point of escalation for engineering and maintenance issues
Lead, motivate and develop a team of engineers through effective coaching, mentoring and performance management
Plan resources effectively to ensure adequate plant cover and delivery of planned maintenance schedules
Manage contractors and maintenance suppliers, including performance reviews and compliance
Support and deliver the site Maintenance Excellence roadmap
Analyse CMMS data to support forward planning and equipment improvement opportunities
Drive RCA, 5 Why, FMECA and Reliability Centred Maintenance activities
Identify and implement opportunities to improve maintenance effectiveness and cost efficiency
Fully support end-to-end PMS processes and departmental 5S standards
Mentor apprentices and support ongoing engineering development
Liaise with OEMs and suppliers to drive standardisation, reliability improvements and cost efficiencies
Leadership & Operational Excellence
Full people management responsibility, including performance reviews, development planning and employee relations
Create clear purpose and direction aligned to OGSM deliverables and Mller values
Promote a strong safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all H&S standards
Coach and embed Operational Excellence principles and tools, encouraging engineering-led OE projects
Collaborate cross-functionally to improve site and business performance
Skills & Experience
Completed engineering apprenticeship (essential)
Strong hands-on engineering background within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Proven experience leading people and/or contractors - essential (this may be as a Team Leader, Shift Lead or Supervisor)
Comfortable working in a shop-floor-based leadership role and managing day-to-day engineering priorities
Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset
