This is a critical leadership role for an experienced Engineering Director to drive operational excellence across multiple, mission-critical facilities.
The Role:
As Engineering Director, you will operate as the senior technical authority across all data centre operations, with full accountability for the performance, resilience, and efficiency of critical infrastructure.
Supporting senior leadership, you’ll play a central role in shaping operational strategy, ensuring scalability, and embedding best-in-class standards across a growing portfolio of facilities.
You will lead multidisciplinary teams and oversee outsourced facilities management partners, ensuring seamless 24/7/365 operations in environments where uptime is non-negotiable.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic and operational leadership across Data Centre Operations and Integrated Facilities Management
• Act as the technical escalation point for all mechanical and electrical infrastructure issues
• Ensure 100% service availability, resilience, and operational continuity across all sites
• Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering and operations teams
• Drive a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Own and manage CAPEX and OPEX budgets, including lifecycle planning and cost optimisation
• Oversee and manage performance of outsourced facilities providers against SLAs and KPIs
• Develop and implement robust reporting frameworks to track asset health and operational performance
• Lead incident management and business continuity planning, acting as senior escalation point for critical events
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Design, Construction, Customer, Compliance, QHSE, and Security teams
• Ensure full compliance with regulatory, safety, and internal governance standards
• Support growth strategy, including new site mobilisation and seamless operational handover
What We’re Looking For
• Chartered Engineer (or equivalent qualification/experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering)
• Extensive experience in data centres, hyperscale environments, or other mission-critical infrastructure (e.g. pharma, semiconductor, critical manufacturing)
• Proven track record of operating at a senior leadership level, managing multi-site operations
• Deep technical expertise across power, cooling, UPS, generators, BMS, and critical systems
• Strong experience managing outsourced FM providers and complex vendor ecosystems
• Demonstrated ownership of P&L, budget management, and cost optimisation strategies
• Experience working with enterprise, FTSE 250, Fortune 500, or hyperscale clients
• Strong understanding of risk management, compliance, and audit frameworks
• Proven ability to lead through high-pressure incidents and operational challenges
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at executive level
• Strategic mindset with the ability to scale operations in line with rapid business growth
Salary & Package
• £120,000 – £140,000 base salary (DOE)
