The post holder will be placed within the Work-Based Education Team. Under the guidance of the Career and Professional Development Lead, the post holder will work in partnership with Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley, Nelson and Colne college and 6th Form schools to facilitate work shadowing and work experience projects.
The Work Experience Co‑ordinator will support the Work-Based Education Team in team activities. Supporting the T-Level program coordinator in the supervision of learners and further development of the T-Level program, the post holder will coordinate work experience placements within all suitable departments within the trust. Working closely with local schools and colleges to support these programs. The post holder will also work closely with our T‑level coordinator to offer pastoral support and guidance to learners on placements.
Responsibilities
- Work under the guidance to assist in developing, monitoring and evaluating work experience placements and bespoke projects.
- Develop and maintain working partnerships with college work placement leads and industry links, sharing ideas and experiences by planning and delivering presentations regarding work experience.
- Work closely with college and 6th Form work experience links to seek out, organise and facilitate bespoke work experience projects requiring close monitoring.
- Liaise with colleges to ensure best match of student to appropriate placement area, including working closely with college work placement leads, monitoring application forms, partaking in student interviews, and liaising with parents.
- Regularly work within college environment, possibly outside normal office hours 8am‑5pm.
- Develop a good awareness of student curriculum and its links to career pathways within ELHT.
- Coordinate all suitable work experience requests including future programmes and related projects.
- Work closely with the T‑Level coordinator, providing support by undertaking learner visits, pastoral support, and documenting interactions.
- Coordinate and deliver specific training to prepare learners for placement, including safer handling and basic life support.
- Support the mid and endpoint assessment process run by the colleges.
- Ensure all students are best prepared for placements, developing and facilitating delivery of training programmes such as workshops, group work, classroom sessions and practical activities.
- Work closely with placement supervisors to help prepare learners, including planning varied learning activities.
- Provide support and guidance to learners and their placement supervisors.
- Ensure quality learning opportunities are available, organising and delivering taught sessions and presentations both within ELHT and colleges.
- Evaluate all taught sessions and activities.
- Act as point of contact for work experience students whilst on placement, visiting and monitoring them regularly in the work area.
- Organise and facilitate feedback sessions at the end of placement to explore learning that occurred during placement and advise on next steps regarding career choices and pathways.
- Ensure students are made aware of potential job opportunities and career pathways within ELHT.
- Deal with any problems or issues appropriately and provide feedback to line manager in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- English / Maths grade C or above
- Health care assistant experience
- ECDL or experience using Microsoft Office
- Ability to understand, absorb, and comply with procedures and use independent judgement in important cases
- Clear understanding and ability to input data and information accurately
- Experience accessing the internet/email systems
- Demonstrated ability in dealing sympathetically and sensitively with young people
