We are looking for a grounds maintenance Operative to join our Grounds Maintenance team, covering sites across East Cornwall. You will be responsible for the maintenance of Cornwall Council cemeteries including undertaking burials, grass cutting, trimming hedges, weeding shrub beds, and maintaining closed churchyards. The successful candidates will have a wealth of experience in amenity horticulture and a proven track record of delivering excellent customer service.
The role of Burials Operative will include:
1. To comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and company policies, including carrying out point of work risk assessments
2. Ensure electronic paperwork is correct and submitted on time.
3. Assist in all aspects of the burials process. To include excavation of the grave, prepare the grave on the day of the burial and to back-fill following the service.
4. Assist with the general maintenance of the burial grounds to include litter picking, shrub pruning, grass and hedge cutting, and weed control.
5. A genuine interest in horticulture and assist in the continuing development of Cornwall Council’s wildflower project across its sites.
6. Using equipment and materials in a safe manner as instructed and in accordance with risk assessments, manufacturer’s guidance and company policy.
7. Ensuring tools and equipment are maintained in good condition and continue to be suitable for required tasks.
Skills and experiences:
8. Recent experience of undertaking a similar role and experience of operating grounds maintenance machinery
9. Be a compassionate and caring individual who likes working and helping others when they are at their most vulnerable
10. This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence Class B, Class C is desirable.
11. Self-motivation with the ability to use own initiative.
