Job title: Pipe Welder – Stainless Steel / Carbon SteelProject: Energy from Waste facility new buildLocation: Site-based, UK. Often shift work / night shift during peak phases What you’ll actually be doing:Welding pipework to ASME B31.1 / B31.3 and EN ISO 15614 standardsCarbon steel: P1 materials, typically A106 Gr B, P235GH for steam/condensateStainless steel: 304L, 316L, 321H for flue gas, chemical dosing, water treatmentProcesses used: TIG/GTAW root + hot pass, MMA/SMAW fill & cap. Some sites use MIG/FCAW for carbon structural pipe. Orbital TIG on thin-wall stainless commonJoint types: Butt welds 2” NB to 24” NB+, socket welds, branch connections. Positions: 6G / H-L045 fixed pipe is standard testReading drawings: Isometrics, GA’s, P&ID’s. Working to weld maps and WPS/PQR’sPrep & fit-up: Grinding, bevelling, purging stainless with argon, tacking to correct gap/root faceQA/QC: Visual inspection, helping with NDT – radiography, MPI, DPI. Repairing defects to pass X-raySafety: Confined space, hot works permits, working at height. Full site induction + CCNSG/SCATS usually requiredTypical requirements UK EFW sites ask forCategoryRequirementTickets/CodesASME IX or EN 9606-1 6G pipe coding. Separate codes for carbon + stainless. Valid & in-dateExperience3+ years heavy industrial pipe welding. Power gen / EFW / refinery preferredProcessesTIG root to 141 standard, MMA fill/cap to 111.
