Overview

Are you someone who loves helping others and wants to make a positive impact in your community? Join us as a Social Care Assistant and be part of a team that supports adults with learning disabilities and older people to live more independently and enjoy fulfilling lives. In this rewarding role you will build meaningful relationships, encourage confidence, and help people take part in activities they love, from arts and crafts to music, drama, and life skills. Whether youre helping someone learn to cook, supporting them with personal care, or simply being a friendly face, your work will truly matter. No two days are the same. You will meet a variety of people, each with their own story, and support them in ways that make a real difference. You will also have the chance to grow your skills, take on specialist training, and be part of a supportive, values-driven team. If youre caring, reliable and ready to take on a role where every day brings new opportunities to help others thrive this could be the perfect fit for you.

Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 8.30-4.30pm with 30 minutes for lunch. As a Social Care Assistant in our day centre, youll help adults with learning disabilities and older people with everyday tasks and activities. This includes personal care, helping with meals, supporting them in learning life skills like cooking or cleaning, and joining in fun activities like arts and crafts, music, and drama. Every day will be different as you meet and support people with a variety of needs.

Responsibilities

* Help people with personal care such as getting dressed, using the toilet, washing, and keeping their space clean.
* Give advice and information to help people find the care and support they need.
* Make sure care plans are followed and help people stay independent for as long as possible.
* Report any concerns about someones safety to your manager and follow safeguarding procedures.
* Work closely with families, carers, other professionals, and local services to give the best support possible.

Role and Setting Notes

Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team and provide a particular service from that fixed location or have access to information there. Buckinghamshire Council\s day opportunity services offer a variety of safe activities across the community for older adults and those with a disability. We aim to promote independence by developing people\s strengths and skills and provide a space for people to socialise. Our Direct Care Support services help ensure clients have a structured environment that enables them to feel secure and empowered. We want to hear from you if you are passionate about making positive changes to our communities and helping people get the best out of life.

Requirements and expectations: You\ll need to be a friendly and caring person who enjoys working with others. You\ll be expected to follow care plans and use your own judgment to solve problems, with support from your manager when needed. You may take on a specialist role that needs extra training, such as working with people with autism. On occasion you may be required to work at our other day centres, so being flexible and able to travel is important.

Organisation context: Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation formed from the cooperation of five councils to serve residents and communities. We are committed to inclusivity and equality, with values of being Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative and Trustworthy. We offer a range of benefits and opportunities, including flexible working, employee well-being initiatives, and discounts and memberships. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare for children, young people and adults at risk.

Salary and Additional Information

* Salary: £25,151 - £28,253 pro rata.
* Golden Hello: a one-off lump-sum payment of £1,000 on successful completion of probation (pro rata for part-time hours).
