Offer description

Reporting to the Workshop Foreman, the LGV Mechanic will carry out vehicle maintenance tasks ensuring legal compliance of the fleet, including planned and preventative work as well as unscheduled maintenance. All maintenance works and repairs will be documented on the company's chosen software for vehicle maintenance records.


Roles and Responsibilities

* Inspect, diagnose and repair vehicle faults to the company's high standards as set out in the DVSA's Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
* Document all works carried out on the company's chosen software for vehicle maintenance records.
* Maintain vehicles and equipment in a timely manner with no undue delays.
* Achieve a 100% MOT first‑time pass rate, but not less than the 95% national average.
* Attend vehicle breakdowns at roadside or customer premises, repair mechanical issues, request further diagnosis in the workshop, or communicate the need for recovery where required.
* Maintain effective and constructive communication with key colleagues daily.
* Minimise vehicle downtime and ensure vehicles are available for the Service Delivery Department promptly.
* Obtain correct authorisation for any expenditure; ensure parts requests are accurate to avoid delays.
* Wear or use correct PPE in the workshop and report defective equipment immediately.
* Assist the Workshop Foreman with scheduled equipment checks.
* Ensure general housekeeping and keep the workshop clean and tidy.
* Communicate any workshop issues to your shift supervisor, Workshop Foreman, or Vehicle Maintenance Manager.
* Carrying out any other tasks as instructed by Senior Management that are in keeping with the job role.


Skills and Experience

* Experience in an LGV workshop.
* IRTEC Inspection Technician (or able to obtain in the first six months of employment).
* Operator’s Licence for Vehicle Maintenance Compliance.
* Category C licence.
* Knowledge of transport operations and operator licensing requirements.
* Knowledge of the DVSA’s Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness and defect categorisation.
* Good understanding of current legislation and ability to keep up to date with legislative changes.
* IOSH Working Safely certification – desirable.
* Knowledge of vehicle ADR regulations concerning the carriage of dangerous goods by road – desirable.
* Experience in the waste industry – desirable.
* Category CE licence – desirable.
