Overview
A kind and patient Personal Assistant is needed to support an intelligent, gentle, and private fourteen-year-old autistic boy living in the Newquay area.
This role offers an average of 7 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Some weekend and school-holiday availability will be required.
About the Boy
He has a strong interest in maths, drumming, and music, and enjoys a range of outdoor activities. He thrives on new experiences, particularly outdoors, and likes walking, visiting new places, going to the cinema, arcades, and meeting new people. He is also keen to build social connections with other teenagers.
He can sometimes find it difficult to stay engaged and has specific sensory needs, including sensitivity to smells and routines around handwashing, cleanliness, and repetitive actions such as opening and closing doors. He can also be particular with food.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be empathetic, calm, and able to build a trusting relationship. Your role will be to support him to develop social confidence, build life skills, and engage positively in activities that reflect his interests.
Compensation
Pay starts at £13.50 per hour, with potential for an increase based on skills and experience. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a young person's life, helping him grow in independence and self-confidence.
Requirements
* Experience of working with young people with autism is essential.
* A driving licence and access to transport are essential.
* Mileage allowance will be provided.
* Successful candidate must undertake an enhanced DBS check (administered by Cornwall Council).
Contract & Administration
The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and will not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
