Role overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Writer, an accomplished features and analysis journalist who can consistently deliver high‑quality, accurate and timely copy.
This role requires someone equally adept at fast‑turnaround analysis articles and long‑form, in‑depth features. You'll be expected to build a strong network of contacts, investigate the key issues affecting the education sector, and produce compelling, authoritative journalism that meets the highest standards of content and style.
A passion for public policy and education is essential, along with a curiosity for the detail that sits behind the headlines. You will frequently engage with policy documents, political statements, data trends and sector insights to ensure our audience receives clear, accurate and meaningful information, quickly.
Research literacy is also highly desirable. You will regularly explore studies not only in education but also in cognitive science, sociology, anthropology and other related disciplines. An interest in developing research skills further is strongly welcomed.
This role is ideal for a journalist enthusiastic about public policy, with experience producing a mix of article types, features, analysis, investigations, data‑led pieces, interviews, for a B2B or national audience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver high-quality features, analysis and long‑form journalism to tight deadlines
2. Research and interpret complex policy documents, political statements and academic studies
3. Build a strong and relevant contacts book within the education sector
4. Generate original story ideas and angles that meet the needs of the schools audience
5. Produce a range of content formats, including investigations, data pieces and profile interviews
6. Identify trends, uncover key issues and explore the topics that matter most to schools
7. Work at speed to ensure our readership receives timely, accurate and actionable information
What will you need to succeed?
8. Proven experience as a features and/or analysis journalist
9. Strong writing, editing and research skills
10. Ability to interpret complex information and communicate it with clarity
11. A passion for education, public policy and evidence‑based journalism
12. Ability to generate impactful ideas and select the right format for each story
13. Experience writing for a B2B or national audience (desirable)
14. Research literacy across multiple disciplines (desirable)
