EQUANS is looking for a Grounds Supervisor to work on our Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital contract. This role would be a permanent full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview:
The post holder will have the required supervisory skills to ensure the safe and continuous operation of the site. Supervising the grounds team and reporting to the Building & Grounds TSM
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
* The hours for this role will be 8 hrs per day equalling 40 hours per week.
* Represent Equans in a respectful and professional manner.
* Carry out and supervise planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on the grounds in accordance with the PPM programme and personal competence and training.
* Respond and Supervise in a timely manner to ad-hoc breakdown requests as identified by the help desk / manager or as a minimum, as per site contract.
* Carry out and supervise work involved in minor upgrading and adaptation works.
* Carry out and supervise duties in accordance with safe working practices within statutory and Company guidelines.
* Safely operate all types of equipment, hand and power tools in accordance with health & safety, manufacturers’ guidelines and relevant training.
* Ensure the correct use of personal protective equipment and adherence to health & safety and infection control procedures.
* Maintain records as and when appropriate and as required, whether written or electronic.
* Willingness to assist and work flexibly with other colleagues and or contractor’s staff
* Ensure liaison with the trust as required, ensuring there is minimum disruption whilst carrying out work.
* Undertake training where necessary to learn and maintain skills and to maintain and develop the requirements of the service.
* Carry out risk assessments on-site as instructed by your manager.
* Collaborate and co-operate with the partners and colleagues to deliver a customer focused service.
* Use initiative to make appropriate decisions, including when working out of hours.
* Diligently complete all required job cards and other work-related paperwork to the required standard whether electronic or hard copy.
* Complete work within the allotted timeframes.
* Carry out any other identified tasks commensurate with role.
Impact:
Grounds Supervisors makes up part of the facilities maintenance team which contributes to the effective and efficient operation of the estate and associated systems that is conducive for the delivery of healthcare.
Complexity:
A Grounds Supervisor plays a pivotal role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal and functionality of outdoor spaces, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-kept. They oversee and coordinate the activities of grounds maintenance staff, creating work schedules, assigning tasks, and providing hands-on training and supervision to ensure high-quality results. Their responsibilities include landscape design and maintenance, which covers everything from planting trees, shrubs, and flowers to mowing lawns, trimming hedges, and irrigation management. They also monitor the health of plants and turf, troubleshooting issues such as pest infestations or disease, and applying necessary treatments. Equipment management is a key part of the role, requiring the supervisor to ensure that all tools and machinery are in good working condition and available for use. Additionally, they handle budgeting and supply management, procuring necessary materials and staying within financial constraints. Safety is paramount, so they enforce protocols to protect workers and the public. Grounds Supervisors must possess strong organizational skills, an eye for detail, and a solid knowledge of horticulture and landscaping principles. Communication skills are essential, as they are the link between their team, management, and sometimes the public, addressing any concerns and overseeing the resolution of any grounds-related issues. Overall, a Grounds Supervisor ensures the outdoor environment they manage is sustainable, visually pleasing, and functional, making a positive impact on the community and environment.
Qualifications or Required Experience:
* Previously worked within a general maintenance environment.
* Previously worked within a customer facing role
* Previously worked within a healthcare environment (desirable)
* Have experience of computer-based task monitoring systems (CAFM) (desirable)
* Level 2 safe use of ride-on mowers
* Pesticide Application Theory (PA1)
* Pesticide Application Knapsack (PA6a)
* Full driving licence
* Computer literacy
