Job Title - Senior Energy & Carbon Consultant (Mechanical Building Services)

Location - Bristol

Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Arup’s Building Services Engineers tackle diverse challenges – from sustainable strategies to fire suppression systems, and from drainage in high-rise buildings to supplying ultra-pure water and piping specialist gases and fluids for healthcare, science and industry facilities. Together with our mechanical and electrical engineers, we provide integrated building services to our clients.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Energy & Carbon Consultant (Building Services), you will be a key part of the Building Services Engineering team, working on multidisciplinary projects providing guidance to other engineers and working alongside building physicists, sustainability consultants, energy and carbon consultants and BIM modellers. This team forms part of the wider region which includes civil, structural, fire, acoustics, specialist lighting, and other engineering disciplines.

In this role you will:

* Play an active role in all stages of our projects from feasibility through to completion across a range of sectors, specifically providing Decarbonisation strategies for both new and existing assets including life-cycle carbon and costing optioneering assessments, using and developing analytical tools and economic models to optimise asset energy, carbon and financial performance.
* Apply your engineering expertise to shape our projects, moving them towards net zero carbon.
* Work in an interdisciplinary environment and aim to design buildings that maximise value for our clients whilst minimising their environmental impact
* Provide leadership to the MEP team on a portfolio of projects locally, nationally and internationally, having the responsibility of ensuring correct technical approaches are applied to the project and are carried out appropriately to complete the tasks at hand.
* Be expected to have project management skills and will have remit for the financial performance of the projects including liaising directly with clients on fees and commercial matters.
* Effectively oversee total project delivery by enabling effective team management and delegation to ensure the efficient and satisfactory delivery of multiple and complex projects, reporting to the Project Director.
* Play a part in the ongoing digital transformation of our business, seeking new ways to increase our efficiency through automation and to offer new services to our clients through our integrated digital approach to design.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We’re looking for a candidate who:

* Is degree qualified in Mechanical, Building Services, Architectural Engineering, Architecture & Environment Engineering or similar,
* Holds Chartered Engineer status or is very close to obtaining chartership via an appropriate professional institution such as IMechE or CIBSE.
* Has demonstrable background in the field of mechanical building services design with experience in leading and delivering Decarbonisation strategies across a range of sectors.
* Has extensive experience of winning and delivering a range of projects.
* Has the ability to provide technical leadership of multi-disciplinary design teams including external sub-consultants.
* Has strong awareness of appropriate sector-specific legislation, regulatory requirements and design guidance and future trends.
* Has knowledge and interest in sustainable building design in terms of both energy and carbon and satisfying associated regulatory requirements.
