My client are the UK’s leading supplier of plastic packaging films into the food production industry. Established over 30 years ago, they partner with some of the country’s largest food manufacturers including Greggs, Mr Kipling’s, Hovis, Aunt Bessie’s and more.
They are looking to add an experienced food packaging engineer to their technical services team.
This person will work closely with new and existing customers to trial new materials on their packaging lines, troubleshooting any issues and implementing effective solutions as they go.
Full training and guidance is provided for the right person in this role, but it would be best suited to an experienced food packaging machine operator, who has a technical mindset and understanding of films and laminates used in the food packaging industry, who is looking to take their career in a new and exciting direction.
The Role
- Acting as a technical expert to troubleshoot packaging line issues (across mainland UK and occasionally Ireland and other areas of Europe)
- Visiting clients premises (sometimes at short notice) to help diagnose and assist with their queries – whether it is the packaging or machinery, usually within a 24 hour turnaround.
- Working closely with production, engineering and QA departments
- Providing technical expertise and support during new food product trials, including compatibility testing
- Working with material suppliers and equipment vendors to evaluate new technologies, troubleshoot any issues and optimize performance
- Documenting procedures and specifications
- Staying up-to-date with emerging industry trends, technologies, best practices in food packaging engineering through ongoing training, industry conferences, and professional development

The Person
- Strong technical understanding of packaging materials and the machines they run on, backed up by first hand knowledge and experience within the food packaging industry
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify causes of packaging issues and provide effective solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Can convey technical information in a clear and concise manner
- Full driving licence and the flexibility to travel across the UK and occasionally further afield with relatively short notice (expect to be on the road 2-3 days a week).
