Purpose of Role
Care assistant are the front line staff in the home. Their role is to assist in the provision of high quality, person focused, relationship based care by working as part of a team alongside colleagues, the resident, their family/friends and the community to exceed the required standards. To ensure residents overall comfort and wellbeing and to ensure residents retain their dignity and individuality and are supported to live as independently as possible.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Service - care:
Assist residents in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional, social and spiritual), providing attention when needed but ensuring residents uses their strengths and capabilities, whilst ensuring they retain their comfort and dignity.
Support the implementation and delivery of an activities programme to individual and groups of residents ensuring that all residents participate in some form of activity daily
At all times remain person focused and family aware to ensure that individual likes, needs and wants are met
Pay particular attention to assisting residents who have limited mobility, or physical / learning difficulties, making the best use of aids provided, to ensure that they safely achieve their personal goals.
Closely monitor residents who may be confused and / or who may demonstrate behaviour that challenges to ensure the safety and welfare of themselves and others.
Assist in the delivery of care for residents who are dying or who have a progressive illness including assisting with last offices to ensure a dignified End of Life.
Make and change beds and ensure that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty to ensure a homely environment for the resident.
Answer the door and telephone appropriately, respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly to ensure a high standard of customer care.
Ensure the home's resources are used appropriately to minimise waste and reduce risk
Communication:
Participate in Staff and Resident/family meetings as required and contribute ideas for the home.
Keep all written records as in accordance with regulations
Human Resources and Training:
Remain flexible in shift/working patterns to meet the needs of the home
Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
Achieve relevant S/NVQ/Diploma qualifications
Health & Safety;
Report immediately to the Registered Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, colleague, self or another and complete recordings and notifications as per legal requirements.
Report to the Home Manager, or the maintenance person, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
Promote safe working practice in the home
General:
Promote a positive personal / professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the home at all times.
Ensure high standards of personal appearance and cleanliness of self at all times
Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
Ensure the security of the home is maintained at all times
Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.

Qualification and knowledge
Willingness to participate in vocational training programmes e.g. S/NVQ2 or equivalent in Health & Social Care
Positive approach to personal continuous training and development
S/NVQ2 or equivalent in Health & Social Care
Skills
Good listening and understanding skills and the ability to follow instructions correctly
Confident and accurate verbal and written communication
Accurate record keeping skills and a good understanding of what information needs to be recorded and why
Able to use own initiative when required to respond to situations, often with minimal supervision
Good time management and organisational skills, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner
Good IT skills including the use of Microsoft office
Knowledge and understanding of person centred care planning process
Experience
Working in a busy people focused environment

Working in a similar role in the Health and Social care sector
Caring for another individual either in a work or in a voluntary capacity

Pay: £12.37 per hour
Expected hours: 33 per week
