Job Description

It’s a fantastic time to work for the Environment Agency as we step forward to tackle the climate emergency. Do you want to help make England a better place to live and work in?

As a member of the FCRM Improvements Portfolio team, you will support the Portfolio Management office and sub-portfolio’s projects and programmes, delivering over £150 million of improvements over the next three years. Your critical role will inform the changes we are delivering, enabling outcomes that protect communities and businesses from the devastating impacts of flooding.

The Improvements Portfolio is a professional portfolio, programme and project management service in the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) directorate. We drive innovation and continuous improvement across FCRM and Incident Management and play a key part in delivering corporate and FCRM strategies and delivery plans.

You will start up and inform new projects, help assure live projects, support our project managers, build relationships with our Portfolio Management Office and improve our portfolio management and data practices. This role is ideal for someone with data analytics and/or project management skills who wishes to gain experience at programme/portfolio level.

This role is not eligible for Skilled visa sponsorship.

Responding to incidents is central to what we do. You will have an incident role (usually virtual) and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident. Full training will be provided. Alternative working arrangements and full support will be available to enable you in your incident role.

Experience / Skills Required

* Formal project / programme management experience is essential.
* Highly numerate with strong data gathering, manipulation and interpretation skills; able to deal with large datasets and multiple users. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required; experience of Power BI / Tableau (or similar) desirable.
* Experience in a project support type role in a complex organisation using Agile and waterfall methodologies.
* Administrative and organisational skills: supporting regular meetings, agenda and minutes for portfolio governance cycles.
* Financial data management and project planning skills desirable.
* The ability to gain credibility, respect and co‑operation throughout the business by showing appropriate collaborative behaviours.
* Experience in tackling and automating routine issues with a continuous‑improvement and problem‑solving mindset.
* An ability to work with uncertainty and find innovative solutions to solve problems.

Applications from those wanting full, shared or part-time working arrangements are welcome. There is good opportunity for blended home and office working. The team is dispersed across the country and you may be based at one of our Environment Agency offices. Some travel and overnight stay will be required.

We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community who wish to join an organisation that values everyone.

We also have a Guaranteed Interview Policy to support those with a disability who are seeking employment. We are committed to guaranteeing an interview to anyone with a disability whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post.
