About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school settings in Manchester. This full-time role is available for an immediate start and involves supporting pupils with a range of complex needs, including severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism spectrum condition (ASC), physical disabilities, and medical needs.
This is a highly rewarding position suited to someone who is patient, nurturing, and committed to supporting children and young people with additional needs to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex learning, communication, and physical needs.
Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes tailored to individual EHCP targets.
Support pupils with personal care, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, where required.
Use alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables.
Support sensory regulation strategies and structured routines.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to meet pupils' holistic needs.
Promote independence, dignity, and inclusion at all times.
Ensure safeguarding and health and safety procedures are followed consistently.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Experience working with children or young people with complex needs in a school, care, or specialist setting.
A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach.
Understanding of autism, sensory processing needs, and communication difficulties.
Confidence supporting personal care and medical needs (training can be provided).
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) - desirable but not essential.
