We are currently recruiting for an Scientific Officer based in Lisburn. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork, ANI clearance has been completed.
Start date: ASAP
Duration: 6 months with a possibility of extension
Rate of pay: £17.43
Hours of work: Mon – Fri 9-5. Earlier starts are required on sampling days (37 hours)
Key Responsibilities:
Staff are needed to join a busy team sampling and analysing the water quality on Northern Irelands bathing waters. Sampling staff will need to be able to lift water quality samples to an exact accredited method and return the samples to the laboratory for analysis. The samples are analysed for faecal indicator bacteria. The sampling and analysis are carried out to an accredited method. Training in sampling and lab techniques is provided. Job will include data management and analysis; bathing water quality investigations; assisting with the wider marine monitoring team as required
Essential Criteria applicants must have:.
Proof of 5 GCSEs including English and Maths grade C or above or the equivalent to this and A Levels in Biology or Chemistry
1 year’s practical experience of working in a lab / water sampling / data management. Experience may be gained in academic/voluntary or work-related fields. Experience in microbiological laboratory would be advantage as would experience in water sampling. A full clean driving licence to allow staff to drive the department vehicles. Experience of water quality sampling. Comfortable working in and on water.
Excellent IT skills, including use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent communication skills.
Proven ability to use own initiative.
