Overview

We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for a senior advisor with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Key Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
 * Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations, and other key industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business‑continuity support during an incident.
Competencies & Experience Required
 * Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, encouraging diversity issues in work.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, including control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
 * Capability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, and academia.
 * Teamwork: work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
 * Experience of working with external and internal stakeholders, including government officials, trade associations, and the EA’s operational teams.
Contract Details
Up to 2 years fixed‑term contract. This vacancy closes end of October.
Interview & Travel
Interviews are expected to be held in person in Birmingham by the end of November. Some travel may be required.
