Your new role
As a Mechanical Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of a wide range of heavy mechanical plant and equipment. Your role will focus on ensuring assets remain safe, reliable, and fullypliant with statutory and regulatory standards.You will carry out planned preventative maintenance and inspections, identify and report defects, and respond to reactive faults to minimise operational disruption. Working hands‑on with mechanical systems such as impounding pumps, hydraulic systems, dock gates, bridges, and associated infrastructure, you will diagnose faults and undertake repairs using appropriate tools and techniques.All work will bepleted in line with health, safety, environmental, and engineering procedures. You will also support delivery of the engineering maintenance plan and participate in an on‑call rota to provide out‑of‑hours support when required.
What you'll need to succeed
1. Mechanical engineering background with apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification
2. Experience maintaining hydraulic systems, pumps, gates, bridges, or similar plant
3. Strong fault‑finding and hands‑on maintenance capability
4. Solid understanding of health and safety systems, including Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Permit to Work
5. Experience using CMMS systems for fault reporting and maintenance planning
6. Knowledge of relevant legislation such as HASAWA, PUWER, LOLER, and PSSR
7. Willingness to take part in an on‑call rota
