Over the last three years our work with energy clients has grown substantially and this is set to continue. We are therefore looking to recruit across a wide range of skills and experience in all parts of the UK. Our global portfolio of work is grouped into five key client-facing themes: Renewable Energy, Urban Energy, HV Networks, Nuclear, and Hydrogen.

The Opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Director to lead our Energy Advisory team in the Midlands, Wales and West. You will use your network gained from working in the Energy sector to generate new leads and opportunities for Arup. You will bid, win, and deliver Energy Advisory consultancy work, collaborating to bring the best of Arup to clients and projects based not only in the Midlands, Wales and West Region but across the UKIMEA, as a member of the UKIMEA Region Energy Leadership team.
We have a strong pipeline of confirmed work with national and local clients as well as international developers who see Arup as a partner for growth. It is expected that the post holder will contribute to the continued growth of our Midlands, Wales and West Energy Advisory team from c50 strong team to c80 over the next 3 years.
To take accountability for the leadership of a team in the Midlands, Wales and West, the role will involve:
1. Prospecting for new work with current and new clients, developing and managing client relationships, and being at the forefront on bids.
2. Being the project director for a portfolio of technical-led advisory services commissions, managing these in compliance with Arup Management System requirements, with accountability for commercial performance and client satisfaction.
3. Taking responsibility for and growing a team / a network of teams, supporting their personal development, providing coaching, addressing performance issues and undertaking / overseeing annual appraisals as well as recruitment to grow the team.
4. Developing the technical excellence of our Energy Advisory work such that it delivers innovative services and solutions to clients. This will often involve integrating own team members with experts from other parts of the firm.
5. Raising Arup’s profile through development and communication of innovation and thought leadership via industry events and conferences, particularly focused on offshore energy infrastructure including T&D and fixed and floating offshore wind.
Is this role right for you?
6. Proven capability in the successful delivery of offshore energy infrastructure projects including generation and T&D elements, providing consultancy services.
7. Proven track record in winning work for themselves and their team, creating business proposals to pitch to clients, drawing together the relevant technical expertise from across a multi-disciplinary firm.
8. Knowledge of the technical, commercial and delivery challenges on offshore energy infrastructure projects, including electricity transmission and fixed and floating offshore wind.
9. Knowledgeable on GB environmental and consents regimes (i.e. DCO) and delivery of relevant scope and understanding of the UK energy market regulatory regimes, such as CfD and electricity grid reform.
10. Team leadership and line management skills, including recruitment.
11. Strong commercial awareness of a client’s business drivers and public sector commitments to decarbonise.
12. Familiar with reporting to and presenting at board level.
13. Minimum of a degree in a relevant discipline, ideally either management or STEM and a Professional qualification.
Some work outside normal office hours may be necessary and travel to and from client sites /or temporary assignments to client’s offices may be required. There will be opportunities for international travel.
