Project Revenue Accounting Manager
Irlam, Manchester
Azenta Life Sciences is the global leader in automated cold chain sample logistics management for drug discovery and biostorage applications and holds its manufacturing center of excellence in Manchester. The Project Revenue Accounting Manager is key to the business and will be responsible for the accounting of the profit and loss account and balance sheet of all key customer projects.
Role Purpose:
Responsible for the accounting of long-term and short-term manufacturing, software, and service contracts with customers.
Drawing up cost and revenue forecasts for contracts based on inputs from project management.
Reviewing and monitoring the performance of contracts.
Recognising revenue on contracts in line with US and UK GAAP.
Documenting and providing a clear audit trail for the accounting of existing projects.
In collaboration with the Project Management team, monitor and report on project financials.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Account for key customer projects for Sample Management Solutions.
* Derive a reliable and accurate monthly forecast of costs and revenues for customer contracts.
* Control project spend, particularly engineering projects.
* Be the point of contact within the division for all key contract accounting matters.
* Update documentation on current and proposed project accounting treatments.
* Reconcile WIP, deferred revenue, stock, and long-term debtors’ accounts.
* Work with the project team to recognize revenues and costs in line with US and UK GAAP.
* Maintain spreadsheets that present data clearly and concisely, allowing reviewers to understand transaction implications easily.
* Draft monthly management accounts showing project progress, risks, and month-to-month changes.
* Create a monthly rolling forecast for all contracts, including billings, bookings, and backlog.
* Collaborate with external accountants to prepare statutory accounts for UK entities.
Authority:
* The role holder is responsible for prioritising their workload and organising their own day, which may vary depending on business demands. They will maintain regular contact with the European Financial Controller, Director of Project Management, and Project Managers.
Team:
This role will oversee and manage a small team responsible for general ledger accounting, leases, VAT accounting, VAT returns, and providing evidence for VAT reclaims, unvouchered receipts, freight accruals, sundry debtors, and government statistics.
Communications:
* The role involves internal communication across all staff levels, including directors and engineering and project management departments.
* Coordinate with accounting firms, banks, and auditors as needed.
What You’ll Bring
* Experience in preparing project accounts under long-term contract accounting rules.
* Proficiency in Excel and spreadsheet development for contract accounting.
* Qualified Accountant, ideally ACA.
* Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle Cloud or SAP.
* Experience reporting under UK and US GAAP.
The job may require some travel around Europe and to the United States on occasion.
