Imperial Vascular Unit is looking for a pro-active and highly motivated senior nurse, with experience in vascular nursing, who is interested in joining our Vascular Nurse Specialist team. The role encompasses autonomous clinical patient reviews within both the nurse-led clinics and inpatient services, and co-ordination of patient focused pathways to ensure appropriate and timely patient management.
The Vascular Unit at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a well-established and world renowned vascular unit, and St. Mary’s Hospital is the arterial centre for the Trust, and Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. In addition we play an important role within the North West London vascular network, and accept tertiary referrals from across the UK. The expertise of the Vascular Nurse Specialist service is essential to the delivery of a high quality, evidence-based and efficient service, ensuring a great patient experience for vascular patients across North West London.
We are seeking an innovative and dynamic senior nurse who is interested in making a difference to the care of patients with vascular disease. Experience of caring for patients with vascular disease is essential, and experience or an interest in change management and quality improvement would be an advantage.
Main duties of the job
1. To take responsibility for and advise on the co-ordination of the patients care within a vascular disease specific pathway, acting as the Vascular Nurse Specialist contact for the patient/client and their relatives/carers.
2. To establish and maintain effective communication pathways within the vascular nursing and medical teams, the MDT, associated Primary Care Teams, and Tertiary referral Hospital Teams.
3. Provide specialist vascular nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients with vascular disease and their relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.
4. The post holder will provide specialist vascular nursing care and support and deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
5. To be flexible in the approach to the vascular clinical areas across the Trust and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research

Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria
6. Registered Nurse.
7. Evidence of post registration education activity
8. Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience.
9. Post registration experience in a relevant area with experience of change management.
Desirable criteria
10. Has attained a Degree in management/professional nursing issues
11. Working towards Master’s degree
SKILLS/ ABILITIES
Essential criteria
12. Demonstrate commitment through involvement in Trust wide initiatives/ committees
13. Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of own patient group
14. Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes
15. Good IT skills and understanding of office Works suite including PowerPoint

EXPERIENCE

17. Significant post registration experience in specialty area and experience in either junior specialty role or team leader/ward management role
