A specialist school in Merton is looking for a Temporary School Caretaker to join their Operations Team for an initial period of 6–8 weeks. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive, reliable, and hands-on individual to play a key role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment across multiple school sites.

Position: Temporary School Caretaker
Location: Merton (with occasional travel to Euston and Wimbledon sites)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary (6–8 weeks initially)
Start Date: Immediate
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 hours per day (occasional Saturdays), with variable start/finish times and some out-of-hours work as needed
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out day-to-day maintenance, emergency repairs, and preventative works
Conduct regular health and safety checks (e.g. water testing, drains, perimeter fences)
Support the cleaning team in maintaining a tidy and safe school environment
Supervise the Maintenance Team and manage their workload
Liaise with contractors and monitor their work when necessary
Follow all school policies and procedures relating to health and safety
Drive school minibus or personal vehicle for pupil transport and errands as required
Assist with gate duty and occasional weekend work
Support the wider operational needs of the school community
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Hold a valid and clean UK driving licence
Have experience in facilities or site maintenance, ideally within a school or similar setting
Be skilled in basic repairs, manual handling, and site safety protocols
Be organised, adaptable, and capable of managing their own and others’ workloads
Be approachable, reliable, and committed to safeguarding and inclusive practice
Possess a relevant trade qualification (e.g. City & Guilds) and health & safety certification (desirable)
