We have an excellent opportunity for a Branch Secretary to join one of the largest and oldest Friendly Societies in the UK at their district branch in Derby.
About the role
As the Branch Secretary, you will help and support the Branch of this Society to be financially and administratively strong. This includes supporting the volunteer Committee of Management to deliver on the membership package, including supporting the delivery of the social element to its target market (predominantly 50+), while bringing in new members, marketing and promoting the organisation, supporting volunteering and helping them to grow.
You will focus on the financial and administrative elements of running the Branch, which will include:
1. Day-to-day bookkeeping
2. Overseeing the management of the companies Hall and some investment properties
3. Managing the membership and renewals, ensuring they are kept informed on Branch matters
4. Supporting a volunteer Committee of Management to be able to steer and govern the society
5. Promote the Society in the local area
6. Develop active involvement of members
7. Build relationships with the local community
About the hours & rewards
For the role of full=time Branch Secretary, you will work 35 hours per week which will include some occasional weekend and evening work and you will receive a salary of £27,250 per annum depending on experience, subject to review after six months.

To be successful for the role of Branch Secretary, you must have/be:
8. Friendly, outgoing and organised, with an ability to work to deadlines
9. The ability to work without close supervision, delivering on measurable targets
10. A peoples’ person with excellent communication skills
11. Able to speak confidently in front of groups of people
12. Patient and diplomatic
13. Able to negotiate, persuade, organise, plan and manage your own time
14. A good working knowledge of MS Office, internet, email and social media
15. Basic bookkeeping experience
16. Excellent interpersonal skills - enjoys meeting new people and capable of ensuring that everyone feels part of the organisation
