IMH Recruitment are seeking an experienced Farm Manager for our client in Leeds, a working rare-breed farm set within the historic Temple Newsam Estate.
This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the day-to-day management of a unique heritage farm, overseeing staff, animal welfare, land management, and ensuring an exceptional visitor experience.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the full operation of the historic Home Farm as part of Temple Newsam Estate.
* Deliver safe, engaging and informative visitor experiences showcasing the farm’s heritage buildings, collections, and rare breed livestock.
* Lead the operational management of livestock and land (including fodder production) with sensitivity to the site’s heritage.
* Support on-site Further Education learning (currently Leeds City College) by providing structured work experience and supervised farm activities.
* Ensure full compliance with Government documentation and regulatory requirements including BPS, HLS, ELMS, and all animal registration/transport records.
* Oversee animal welfare to the highest standards, maintaining and promoting minority, native and rare breeds in partnership with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
* Manage agricultural land in line with current agri-environmental schemes.
* Work collaboratively as part of the Temple Newsam site management team.
* Lead, motivate, and develop farm staff to maintain high standards in both visitor services and animal care.
* Manage budgets responsibly and maintain clear audit trails for all income and expenditure.
* Support external audits to drive continuous improvement in farm operations.
* Ensure procurement adheres to financial regulations, policy, and legal requirements.
* Promote and uphold Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, and Safeguarding policies.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
* Strong ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and lead a multi-skilled team.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, confident interacting with stakeholders at all levels, including the public, MPs, elected members, and senior officials.
* Competent ICT skills (email, Word, Excel, databases).
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Sound knowledge of agricultural management practices and legislation.
* Relevant Level 3 qualification in Agriculture (or equivalent experience).
* Experience in managing livestock, land, and farm operations.
* Machinery operation licences.
* Ability to access remote sites efficiently.
* A relevant degree is desirable but not essential.
* Full UK Driving licence is essential.
* Ability to work weekends when required.
Hours & Pay:
* Monday–Friday with weekend working included.
* Specific working hours will be discussed at interview.
* £19.81 per hour.
* Weekly pay whilst through the agency!
