Acorn Education Trustis looking for a caring and committed HLTA to support pupils within our Link 2 nurture base at New Close Primary School in Warminster, Wiltshire. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual looking to work with children with additional emotional and social needs, so they can access the curriculum and progress in their learning.
Working Hours:Part Time (30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 39 weeks per year, includes Teacher Training days). Required: September 2025.
At Acorn, we pride ourselves on transforming education locally, with our two nurseries, seventeen primary and four secondary schools being at the heart of their local communities. Our Link 2 nurture base is a dedicated provision for children with social and emotional needs and/or an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, which affects how they access the curriculum. Staff here are committed to the development and delivery of an adaptive curriculum for all young learners so they can feel engaged, challenged and able to make excellent progress. The aim of the setting, which is likely to move to Trowbridge in September 2026, is to re-integrate children back into their home Primary School.
As a HLTA within the nurture base, you must be prepared to work flexibly, liaising with other teaching staff to plan and deliver effective learning activities to small groups of students as well as 1:1 work. You will be responsible for meeting children’s emotional and social needs, monitoring their progress and leading the provision when the teacher is not there. Knowledge of the Thrive Approach is desirable (though not essential) for the role.
We are looking for someone who:
2. Has at least grade C in GCSE English and Maths or equivalent;
3. Can work closely with staff to enhance the learning opportunities of pupils and to positively impact their progress and outcomes;
4. Has strong interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work with a variety of pupils, staff and parents;
5. Is self-motivated, dedicated and consistent;
6. Has the ability to deal with new challenging situations;
7. Is a strong team player, good at building relationships;
8. Has a confident, resilient and flexible attitude;
9. Is organised, methodical and patient;
10. Can plan and deliver quality lessons to small groups under the direction of the nurture base Teacher / Lead;
11. Has experience of supporting pupil’s learning;
12. Understands and is sympathetic to the needs of children / young people, including their social, emotional and mental wellbeing;
13. Has formal or informal experience of Thrive in an educational setting (desirable but not essential).
