Job overview

This is an exciting time to join our ever-growing Endoscopy Unit. We are introducing new and innovative procedures and want to grow our highly skilled workforce to complement this.

Endoscopy at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital is a JAG-accredited unit running a six-day service, using a range of latest technology to treat our patients to the highest standard at all times.

Our skilled nursing team are trained to consent, assist with procedures, recover and discharge patients along with being trained to undertake technical aspects of the role including the handling of endoscopes and other clinical devices.

If you are an established registered nurse that wishes to specialise in Endoscopy and learn new skills and feel that you can bring high quality care and compassion to our unit, please apply for this position.

This post is not suitable for newly qualified nurses or those due to qualify.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a high standard of nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of patient care.

To work closely with the Endoscopy Operational Manager, Ward Managers and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care, staff and service development within the Endoscopy department environment.

To carry out all relevant forms of care under supervision and when proficient demonstrate procedures of care; supervise junior qualified and / or unqualified staff including student nurses whilst maintaining a safe working environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assess patient care needs and the development and implementation of programmes of patient care and participate in the evaluation of these.

To ensure a high standard of nursing care is performed at all times and assist in the review and regular update of these standards.

Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition and safety.

NMC Qualification

Essential criteria

1. Current Acute Registered Nurse with the NMC
2. Degree in Nurse related specialty or working towards

Desirable criteria

3. Mentorship or teaching qualification

Good communication skills

Essential criteria

4. Demonstrates the ability to undertake challenging conversations
5. Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Desirable criteria

6. Counselling or coaching skills

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
8. The necessary experience working as a Band 5

Desirable criteria

9. Previous Endoscopy experience

Skills

Essential criteria

10. Ability to use computers and software such as Word/Excel

Desirable criteria

11. Venepuncture ,Cannulation and Competent in the administration of intravenous medication
